Is it just me or is Simeon Nikolov still taking steroids? Reminds me of a former president who is already laying the groundwork to make excuses for his eventual defeat. Come on. No need to spread political conversation on this thread. Politics has nothing to do with this thread. Do better.

I mean we still have to see if the kid will end up being THAT good, he’s physical for sure but doesn’t necessarily mean he’s going to be lights out as a setter.
I thought even Tread Rosenthal was mostly mid throughout the season with all the hype surrounding him when he came.

I mean, there's a pretty big difference between Tread playing high school and some U19 before going to Hawaii vs Nikolov starting at the VNL for his national team. Regardless of if he's overhyped or not, that's hardly equivalent and it's not a surprise Tread struggled with location and consistency

Plus I doubt the pool of Bulgarian athletes is as big as the USA, not to mention Simeon having the connections to fast track his positioning within their national team pipeline. But yes, remains to be seen how good he really ends up being and if he even sticks around long enough for it to matter.

The best and most physical athletes in the USA don't play men's volleyball. Besides an athlete like George Roumain. All the USA kids who are that physical play basketball, football, baseball and other mainstream sports. Countries outside USA are different and that is why you see teams like UCI, UH, UCLA, USC, LBSU going after international kids.

I felt similarly from watching Nikolov on tape, but I've seen Simeon in the gym recently. He's waaay ahead of Rosenthal and any of his peers.

I think we get plenty physical kids playing volleyball, the type of physical you need for football and for the most part baseball are not what is needed for volleyball. Basketball there is correlation there but also the accessibility of the sport is wider reaching than almost any other. Foreign countries don’t play any of those sports you listed at the level we do in the states. Not to mention there is a TON of red tape keeping the men’s side of the sport from growing. I think volleyball is simply a bigger story in Europe and other foreign countries and the start to professional path of development is a lot more solid than the U.S. Cut the red tape and watch the sport grow exponentially!

I’ll take your word for it if you’ve seen him in person but yea i was going off of the film i saw if him and simply did not see him doing anything special or different than any above average D1 setter with size. If his location has become immaculate and he’s able to take over games with his serve like his brother as well as his block then I’ll definitely give the guy his flowers. Lol but I also think LBSU fans have been hungry for a more competitive setter for awhile now so I wouldn’t put it past people to glaze him more than what’s currently deserved.

His physicality is more impressive in person than on tape, but I think it's his mentality that sets him apart more than anything.

I would not call the other setters in the NCAA his peers, he is already a legit international level setter. I haven't seen him in person yet but watched a lot of tape and my opinion is that he is noticably better than Tread or Rowan.
