#6 Wisconsin vs. #23 USC | Thursday, November 14, 2024 - 10 PM Central / 8 PM Pacific | Galen Center - Los Angeles, California |
Follow Along🎟 StubHub 🎟📺 BTN 📺📊 StatBroadcast 📊🎧 100.5 FM ESPN Madison 🎧 The USC Trojan Marching Band is the only collegiate marching band to earn a platinum album, for their performance on Fleetwood Mac's 1979 single, Tusk. The band's portion of the song was recorded one Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles' Dodger Stadium, where producer Ken Caillat had installed a pop-up studio. Caillat had expected the band to remain stationary during the recording, but the director informed him that the band always marched while playing, for timekeeping purposes. Forced to improvise, Callait rigged up a series of shotgun mics to capture their sound while they were in motion. Four of the five band members were present for the recording session, with Mick Fleetwood carrying around a cardboard cutout of the absent John McVie. Clips from the recording session were included in the song's music video, along with footage of Stevie Nicks twirling a baton.

I hate alternate names for women's teams. It's so condescending. Anyway, Wisco/U$C - let's go. I had a friend/co-worker who went to USC. He told me it was sometimes referred to as the University of Spoiled Children. This one scares me some. Long flight, Thursday match, unfamiliar gym, pretty darn good team.

Ally Batenhorst is USC biggest weapon this year. Wisconsin had a lot of experience shutting down her game. We shut down a much better hitter in Jess Mruzik last week, so..... Just watch Tuaniga on the setter dump and quickly knock her off the service line and we will roll.

USC has a lot of potential on paper, but they also lost to Michigan State, so it’s hard to figure them out. Wisconsin should be able to pull it out if they can control USC’s service pressure.

This one scares me some. Long flight, Thursday match, unfamiliar gym, pretty darn good team. Yeah, we'll need to come out focused and strong. I think we'll be up for it. I can see Charlie starting out a little too excited due to the whole CA thing, going home, etc., maybe forcing things, but I think she'll settle down. We should be able to contain Batenhorst. I don't see us losing 3 sets to USC - maybe 1. But I agree that travel and time difference could be a factor.

Bucky in 3
Q: For those more familiar with LA County geography/demographics than I- Is Charlie's fanbase more likely to be present tonight? Or for the match with the Bruins? Both?

Bucky in 3 Q: For those more familiar with LA County geography/demographics than I- Is Charlie's fanbase more likely to be present tonight? Or for the match with the Bruins? Both? From the Punzel article today (https://badgerextra.com/sports/volleyball/wisconsin-volleyball-charlie-fuerbringer-family-legacy/article_13f3b196-a1d7-11ef-a920-97e8c9421ff7.html): Fuerbringer and her No. 6 University of Wisconsin volleyball team are headed to Los Angeles for matches Thursday against No. 23 Southern Cal and Saturday against UCLA. And in between, they plan to take a little trip down the road to Fuerbringer’s home in Hermosa Beach and maybe squeeze in a little beach time.“I’m so excited,” Fuerbringer said. “I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity to go home and play in front of my old friends and family and the people who got me to where I am today. It’s going to be like a big family reunion for me and I will literally cry, I’m so excited.” Looks like USC might be 5 minutes closer to Hermosa Beach than UCLA is, but pretty much a wash.

Working on links and stuff.
Full disclosure, work has been a nightmare and also I have zero faith in my ability to stay awake for this.

(I lived in north Redondo - maybe a mile or two from where Charlie lives - for a little over a year, and then in Torrance for 20-some more years). The South Bay - Hermosa, Redondo, Manhattan, Torrance, etc etc - has stayed freeway-unfriendly for a very long time, by design of the residents; you can get fairly close to it on the freeways, but not directly into it on a freeway. UCLA down to Hermosa is a slightly more direct trip down the 405; from USC, you'd have to take the Harbor Freeway, then come across on 91. But neither gets you particularly close; there's still some surface street to travel. I had a friend from UW who lived in Brentwood (next to UCLA), so I know that drive better than to USC, but I doubt there's much difference in time. And either can be hours, depending on traffic and time-of-day, etc. I remember one night a friend from work and I were at a Dodgers game, and we made the drive from the stadium down the Harbor Freeway and to Torrance in maybe 30-40 minutes. Quite rare. :-) To the extent that there is a "with the flow" or 'against the flow", when they head for Hermosa during the day tomorrow, they'll be against the flow, so that will work in their favor. Adding: finding a place to park the bus they'll be on? Now THAT could take a while. LOL

Also, The Badgers walked into Mackey Arena and owned the place in terms of beating up on the host team. I don't think USC's home court will be a problem. Badgers in 4, only because it's hard to predict when they'll get caught up in one of those sets that gets away from them.

I hate alternate names for women's teams. It's so condescending. Anyway, Wisco/U$C - let's go. And I don't like that Wisconsin doesn't meet full financial need for every student but hey here we are. Let's go WOMEN!

USC doesn't even charge tuition if an admitted student's family makes less than $80,000.
