this is also the last year of COVID years for the most part. you have TWO classes of athletes that have been developing since COVID. don’t think we’ve ever had two classes of athletes graduate at the same time ever so it’s bound to be the best ever

It’s 2009. Hooker, Hodge, and Glass all graduated that year. Argument could be made for 2010 though.

Will be interesting to see the impact of the end of the COVID classes on the strength of volleyball teams. Due to having an extra class for four years, wonder how much that will impact the experience level overall.

for USAV, i think the most impactful classes were 2008 (akinradewo, harmotto, fawcett, miyashiro, larson) & 2009 (hooker, hodge, glass) so far. we’ll see about 2024!

I believe Miyashiro was 2009 but looking at that 2008 First Team All-American list and wow. If you add Miyashiro to it, that roster could compete for Olympic Gold. It’s pretty hard to predict which middles will make it at the international level and 2008 certainly had impact middles. We have less standouts at MB right now, which we don’t really need.

2007-2009 were the absolute golden years for NCAA vball IMO. I think, looking back on it, that's what makes me SO amazed that Penn State won all three of those natties. I doubt we'll ever see a team as good as Stanford 2007 or Texas 2009 not win the natty and not just bc they didn't play well / injury late in szn. Kind of crazy.

All these covid year player questions deserve an asterisks in my mind. Many have played five full seasons and we are essentially combining two full high school years (2020 and 2021) so the sheer volume of the elite player pool is just bigger. You just can't compare to classes prior to covid.
Is this the deepest year of strong senior players? probably....is it the most elite? probably not.
On the fundamentals, the graduating setters this year are sub par - other than Wait and Miner, nobody is really that elite. As for the player comparison in general, and in particular the hitters, I've said it before but given how the rules of the game have changed, I think trying to compare players in the past to the players today is a fools errand. We are now playing in a era where doubles are allowed and hitters can lift the ball.

blah blah blah since Jordan Larson graduated alone, or something like that.
