In the previous match this year between Syracuse and Cal, the Bears pulled out a reverse sweep thanks to the efforts of Li (17 kills) and Gianna Bartalo (30 digs), the latter of whom became just the 14th Cal player to cross the 30-dig mark; on the other side of the court, the Orange's Ava Palm and Sydney Waller posted 16 kills apiece, while Sydney Moore led all players with nine total blocks.
Syracuse ranks 34th in the NCAA with an average of 2.55 blocks per set but sit last in the conference with 10.13 kills per set, 9.58 assists per set and a .131 hitting percentage. Its most efficient attacker is Anastasiia Nikolnikova, who is hitting .343 on the year with 136 kills and also leads the squad with 1.19 blocks per set.

Syracuse took the first two sets against California in their first meeting before the Golden Bears pulled off a reverse sweep. Veronica Sierzant (48 digs, 20 digs) and Ava Palm (16 kills, 10 digs) both registered double-doubles and three more players posted double-digit digs - Greta Schlichter (17), Nikki Shimao (11) and Sara Wasiakowska (10). . . .
Maggie Li leads California and ranks No. 2 in the ACC in kills with 427. The sophomore has 20+ kills in three straight matches and tallied 27 against the Blue Devils, her most in a conference contest this season. She had 17 kills against Syracuse on Oct. 12. Peyton DeJardin is California's No. 2 option on offense. She has 288 kills on the campaign. . . .

Cal's win was highlighted by sophomore Xuemeng (Maggie) Li's third-straight game with 20 or more kills, notching a match-high 27 on .381 hitting with just three attack errors while also adding 13 digs (and two blocks) for her sixth double-double of the season. Peyton DeJardin recorded a double-double of her own – her seventh – with 11 kills and a team-high 18 digs

They played on Oct 12, 2024 in Berkeley, CA where Cal won 3-2
