Penn State will be ranked ahead of both Tennessee and Santa Clara in the final poll. Most likely at 3......BOOK IT!! The Nittany Lions had a great season, they deserve the 3 spot.

I remember in 1992, Florida went to the final 4 and ended up ranked 5th. They went to the Final 4 in 1993 and finished 14th. There is a precedent that teams who make it to the final 4 don't always end up ranked in the top 4. I think this year, that should also be the case. Not to take anything away from Santa Clara or UT who both had great seasons, but neither would've been in the final 4 if they had to face Washington or Nebraska to get to San Antonio. I think Florida and Wisconsin have legit claims to being 3 and 4, based on who they lost to in the regional finals. I think a case could be made for both teams that they could've gotten to San Antonio in different brackets. In the end, however, who really cares? All that matters is #1. 25 years from now, no one is gonna remember who was #3. No one will care.
And memo to Heather Cox, UT did not win the SEC this year, as you stated several times during your lame broadcast on Thursday.

BiK says that UT will not be ranked in the top 4. Therefore it is a lock that they will ;D

No, she listed the goals they set for this year and said they accomplished them all, this year(the goals were to beat Florida, win the SEC and get to the final 4). She said it a few times, calling them SEC champions. It was one of a myriad of things that Heather and ESPN got wrong.

I actually have to go with gator on this one. As i remember she said those goals were for this season. I'm not positive though.
Tennessee should be ranked ahead of Santa Clara. I dont think they will be #3 though. Even though they proved their early season struggles were way behind them, i think those 8 losses will still weigh them down a little. Maybe if they had won out the SEC tournament...

How many times does AZ have to prove they aren't a top 5 team, BiK?

2004: (previous poll in parens) 1. Stanford (6) 2. Minnesota (4) 3. Washington (5) 4. USC (8)
2003 1 USC (1) 2. Florida (3) 3. Hawaii (2) 4. Minnesoota (14)
2002: 1. USC (1) 2. Stanford (3) 3. Hawaii (2) 4. Florida (5)
2001 1. Stanford (3) 2. LBSU (1) 3. Nebraska (2) 4. Arizona (4)
2000 1. Nebraska (1) 2. Wisconsin (4) 3. Hawaii (3) 4. USC (2)
1999 1. Penn State (1) 2. Stanford (2) 3. Pacific (5) 4. LBSU (6)
For at least the last 6 years the final poll has had the top four teams as those participating in the Final Four with the top 2 teams being the teams in the championship match.
Given that, Tennessee may not end up 3rd but they're very likely to be in the top 4 in the final poll of 2005.

Which would make the poll a joke and a total waste of time. Tennessee isn't even the best team in the SEC...

That wasn't the question that was posed for this thread though was it (R)!?
Was Minnesota truly the 4th best team in the country in 2003? Were they the best team in the Big 10?
I was happy they made it to the Final Four, and proud that they put up a very solid fight against a very dominant USC team. However, that said they were given a favorable bracket to advance in compared to teams that had to face USC, Florida and Hawaii in the other 3 regions.
