That statement might have been a little vague but I'm sure the e-mails you received from the university president and the v-ball program may have clarified the statement a little more!

Jill Pearson left. She is now the 18-1 coach and administrator at Club Tonka.

do you know why she is leaving? can club tonka even pay her minimum wage?
seems like a challenge from a recruiting perspective for the gophers, in the short-term, but it could help long-term with her as a club coach in the area.
also, think it was a great benefit to have such an accomplished setter as a coach.

I don't know for sure, but I would guess she wants to spend more time with her family and/or enlarge it. That's usually the case.
I am positive she is leaving on good terms.
It was kind of cool seeing Amber Holmquist every now and then, too.

I heard about this in San Antonio from someone I consider to be a reliable source. They said that it was related to changes in the recruiting rules (longer period within which to contact potential recruits?) that will lead to an even bigger time commitment for coaches. You really can't blame Jill or other assistants for wanting to have time for a life away from their job.

if a person has no aspirations to become a head coach, why would they do the assistant coach thing and travel EVERY weekend.

For the free shampoos at the hotels? Not enough. Maybe with the little soaps too.

Does Minnesota have to hire a woman to take her place, or can they hire a male? Any word on who will take this position?

No clue about who it will be, but they don't have to hire a woman. They had Mike, Brian and Dave prior to Brian leaving and Jill arriving.

I see this as a major loss to Minnesota. Mike continues to turn more and more responsibilities to his assistants. I think Jill was calling every offensive play. She was well-liked by the team and was doing much of the recruiting. I doubt UM will be able to pull in anyone quite like Jill. I seriously doubt the university will allow an all-male staff. Not sure that is best for the team anyway. By the way, how much longer before Mike hands the job to Boos? Or will UM open this position?

I would actually expect Mike to go with an all male staff. He has had one in the past...a couple of times. Part of the reason he prefers an all male staff is the turnover has been less frequent. This is not to say that he feels women are not competent, it's just that he's experienced more turnover in that area.
A lot of this has happened because of life changes (marriage, pregnancy, etc.)
