I see this as a major loss to Minnesota. Mike continues to turn more and more responsibilities to his assistants. I think Jill was calling every offensive play. She was well-liked by the team and was doing much of the recruiting. I doubt UM will be able to pull in anyone quite like Jill. Not that Jill isn't a great person and coach but this is what everyone said when Brian H. left two years ago. They will be fine.

I vote for the Boos Brothers (they're on a mission from God). What's money and prestige when you can have family, eh Jim?

I don't think you feel the impact of coaches who have moved on right away. The loss of Brian H. was significant. I thought he was critical in helping Mike take Minnesota to new heights.

I don't see why the potential replacement for Jill being male or female has to do with the decision making process.
If there are multiple applicants, then you select the one that makes the most sense for the program regardless of gender.
I do think a re-uniting of the Boos Brothers would be interesting, though who knows if it would be worth leaving UMD (D-II) as a head coachs to beome a D-I assistant coach would be considered a worthwhile move.

Mo Batie was very important to the Gopher program, Brian Heffernan was very important to the Gopher program, David Boos is very important to the Gopher program, Jill played a solid role over the past 2 years as well. You also can't understate the importance of Nao Ikeda to the Gopher program. Mike is the key ingredient that keeps it all moving along though and he's had good success throughout his career in selecting new assistant coaches to join his programs. I trust he will do so yet again in finding a replacement for Jill.

It seems like a revolving door at UM. Are there any coaching staffs they have been together for longer than 3-4 years?

It seems like a revolving door at UM. Are there any coaching staffs they have been together for longer than 3-4 years? Not sure how to take that statement. It's not like asst. coaches are leaving because they are dissatisfied. Mo Battie passed away, Brian H. left to take a head coaching position. I don't know the whole situation but it could be that the job was more than Jill anticipated. I don't believe she necessarily sought out the MN job a couple of years ago. I believe her husband took a job in the Twin Cities and the MN position just happened to open at that time.

A revolving door?
It isn't like coaches are leaving because of a disappointment with the program.
Mo Batie passed away unepectedly.
Brian Heffernan was offered a D-I head coaching position. He had been an assistant, associate, and co-head coach with the Gophers for a few years. Anyone offered a head coaching job before they'd be expected to get the position at their current program at least has to consider the option.
Dave Boos has been with the Gophers for 3 years now as well and has been promoted to co-head coach now as I recall.
Mike and Nao have been with the program since 1986.
I'm not sure I understand your point or your concern(s).

You all are forgetting Janet Cobbs and Kim Kumfer.
Not that I think there's anything sinister going on...

Btw, Kim got married and went with her husband to Maryland. Janet had a young daughter -- and now has at least one other child (and coaches at UW-River Falls).

I am curious as to what programs have been together the longest - head coach, first assistant, and second assistant. It seems like the Penn State staff has been in place for a while. What about Ohio State?

Mike's been at PSU for 15 years (!), but this was Kevin's first year.
Jamie and Sean have been at OSU for 4 years and 3 years, respectively.

Just curious Gopher fans, did Schmidt from Illini Elite red-shirt this past season? I saw she saw limited action. Does Mike have a scholarship available for the 2006 class?
