I can see how things might have been different with Kanoe and Hittle playing. Thurlby did ok, but the hitters were not used to her setting. Hittle would have come storming at the net.

Houston needs to be replaced in the passing formation by, I don't know, Kelly Ong?

It will take a while before Hawaii becomes well oil. I think playing the way they have been so far, they will lose possibly 2 or 3 more games. Perhaps more. (hope not) But I feel confident anyway that they will be contenders as the season goes by and will jell at post season play.

Whats amazing also is Mason's serves. How she got the ball from going into the net, just skirting the tape, is beyond me. It's like she was on automatic pilot.

Now if Hawaii had serves like that in the Florida and UCLA games, the result might have been different.

Some quick observations:
Sarah Mason...Amazing!! She was hitting corner after corner and line and after line with her shots. She hit very smart and didn't try to do anything too spectacular. Her serving was just phenomenal. The 9 aces were great but even greater was the fact that she had just 2 service errors. You could really see her take over the match.
Cayley Thurlby did pretty good considering how little time she had to prepare for the match. I also liked her offensive tendencies with her dump shot. Location was a little off but as time progresses she should become more comfortable with the hitters and vice versa.
The defense for Hawaii was lazy. How many tip shots fell for points? Answer: Way too many. A team with an average height of 5-8 should not have 20 kills and hit .400 against a team that averages six feet across the net in any game. You have to give Fairfield credit for trying something different against the Wahine but way too many balls fell that should have easily been dug.

Maybe Mason will be the go-to All-American girl this year. I mean, Kim Willoughby became a superstar when everyone had written the Wahine off.

Well if Houston can just become more consistent with everything, they both could become All-Americans this season.

Let's hope Sarah brings this kind of play in the next two matches.

Well if Houston can just become more consistent with everything, they both could become All-Americans this season. No way Houston is an All-American this year ~ maybe before the end of her career, but she is too raw in every area to be an All-American. While I liken Sarah's game to Kahumoku's, she's a step behind Kahumoku in just about every facet ~ not All-American this year either.
