Not to jinx her before the big game or anything, but having seen her play in person three times and several times on TV, I think if Acevedo were two inches taller she would be a strong POY candidate every year. Her game is complete whether digging, hitting, or serving, and is filled with finesse. One of the most impressive short girls I've seen in college ball. A fast, tall RS can dampen her kill percentage if Moriarty is forcing a lot of sets, but when the passing is good Acevedo can find a way to score no matter how big the wall is.

look at acevedo's career stats vs Nebraska, she struggles with the big boys. A very nice player indeed, but shouldn't be mentioned in the POY talk.

Um yeah that's why I had an "if" conditional clause in there. ;D Although of course alot of that is because Cook knows stopping Acevedo on the left and serving tough is all it usually takes to beat UT.
Until this year, that is.

Yep. It's a free board. You start sharing your ifs, and I'll start sharing mine. We'll meet in the middle, beneath that old Georgia Pine.

Until this year, that is. Wait, something happened last year, didn't it? Oh yeah: www.texassports.com/doc_lib/000_stats/vb/2005/utvb2705.htmI didn't see the match, of course, but it looks like Nebraska stopped Acevedo in their last meeting, and Texas won that. Are you saying Nebraska didn't serve tough? That doesn't sound like them.... I'm not making a bit argument here, just saying that if Texas really is as good as they seemed in the AVCA tournament, it started last year. And as for tonight's match, it seems that Penn State has a lot more to worry about than just stopping Acevedo. This will be a very interesting match.

I guess all y'all are watching the match on CSTV or are following the stats yourselves. I'll snag a tape later, but it's interesting from the stats to see zero blocks and very low digs.
Basically, it looks like this is an exchange of big kills or attack errors on both sides. Of course, that can't last through the entire rotation. Sooner or later one team will get in a good matchup and the other team will fall behind. Right?

The stats show PSU winning the battles, losing the war.
