SEC play actually began on Wednesday, with Miss. State sweeping Ole Miss.
Florida swept UGA tonight
LSU beat UT in 5, rallying from 0-2 down in the most hostile environment to play in America, or so I am told.
USC beat Auburn in 5, 31-33, 30-25, 28-30, 30-23, 15-13. Cole had 36 kills.
Bama's site says it beat MSU in 4, though their stats say it's still going on, 10-7 in the 4th. MSU won game 1, 30-16, Bama took the next 2, 18 and 19, so who knows.
Kentucky swept Arkansas, easily, 30-18, 30-28, 30-25. That's more like how I expected UK to play this year.
We can use this thread to keep scores and standings updated, if people so wish. Big matches can and will certainly garner their own threads.
Standings East UF 1-0 USC 1-0 UK 1-0 UT 0-1 UGA 0-1
West Bama 1-0 LSU 1-0 MSU 1-1 Arkansas 0-1 Ole Miss 0-1 Auburn 0-1
Sunday matches Florida at South Carolina Arkansas at Tennessee Ole Miss at Bama LSU at Kentucky Auburn at Georgia MSU is off

Auburn swept Alabama tonight, 30-21, 30-26, 30-18. That shocks me. Is Auburn better than I saw on Wednesday?
UT over Ole Miss 3-1, 27, 26, (24), 23
UK over MSU 3-1, (27), 25, 25, 27
LSU swept South Carolina, 25, 31, 28 in Baton Rouge. Cole only had 13 kills and hit .119. Ugh, so frustrating that Florida couldn't stop her.
Arkansas swept UGA, 20, 24, 18

I think Auburn is improved, but Alabama has really struggled all season. Just can't get things going in the right direction.

Ok, maybe six of us from the board couldn't beat Auburn after all, but I bet we could beat Georgia. The Bulldogs aren't just a bad team, they're slipping enough that they're becoming a bad program. Hard to believe the administration there has let that happen.

I was shocked she survived last season. At the SEC Tournament last year she had the look of a coach that had directed her last game.
I actually heard that last December the UGA administration contacted a couple of other coaches (including a current SEC head coach and a couple of current and former SEC assistants) to basically offer them the job but were turned down at every turn. The longer they let the program spiral downward, the harder it will be to attract a coach that can return them to respectability.
I wouldn't be totally suprised if a move of some sort is made before the year is out.

Tennessee vs. Florida is a match that should be interesting with Cusack still out.

I think LSU might be the team to beat in the SEC. Florida certainly no longer the lone wolf.

Something just does not seem "right" at Florida. I don't know if it is chemistry, a few recruiting errors, or just nagging injuries, but the past two seasons have not been up to par. Am I wrong? I agree with Keystone, I see a pack forming - in the next few years - at the top of the SEC with LSU, Tennessee, Florida, and Kentucky (and maybe USC).

off the court chemistry isn't an issue this year. On the court has been, but that's because of injuries. It's hard to get into a rhythm when the lineup isn't set. 2004 was a down year(though the seeding had more to do with that than their actual play when it mattered in the end), but I'm not sure how you could say last year was not up to par. They got to the final 8, losing to Nebraska. They can't get to the final 4 every year. I say wait and see how this year turns out before you write them off.
It's good in the long run for Florida to not be the only good team in the league. The real question mark is can these other teams stay at such a high level?
