Don't you think being pushed in practice is part of what makes a team elite? Naw, just get the schools men's club team to scrimmage the women's team, then they don't have to have such good second team talent.... at least until the NCAA makes up a new rule for that... ;D

I've been a setter... and I've been a hitter.... my own experience is this.
As a hitter, I work mostly on my instincts. The most thinking I do is my positioning on defense.... and which direction I'm probably going to hit the ball... but then my instincts could change that.
As a setter, I'm thinking about the opposing teams blockers to know which hitter has the best match up. I'm thinking about which of my hitters is more reliable.... who do I go to in crunch time. I'm thinking about set positioning... each player (especially a middle) needs a bit different set position. Plus.... I touch every second ball when I'm setting. If I were coaching...... I couldn't imagine that I could have two players that were equally as good at making the right decisions..... let alone, be able to execute! You bring up the football example. I don't see the quarterback being brought in and out every few plays. It sort of proves my point. The leader of the team (the one who contols the ball)... is the one who needs to learn their way through the match/game.... to better lead the team to victory. I don't think one can learn nearly as much about the match from the sidelines..... than from being on the court.
