As for the game, I'm confident that our ladies CAN down the Wahine a 2nd time, even at the SSC, but I'm not confident that they WILL do it. What a cop out!

Quick Sherman, to the way-back machine. Set it for last season. Watch the Wahine have to go five games against the Aggies, both at NMSU and at the SSC. Now jump to Spring '06, and watch NMSU beat Texas Were NMSU's pre-season opponents lower quality than Hawai's? Definitely. Although a team (or individual athlete) wants to play opponents that are better than them, because you don't really improve by playing lesser teams, a coach also has to balance playing better teams and losing with building the confidence to win in his own team. NMSU is getting better each season, attracting better players to the team and causing the team practices to get tougher. There's no question that Hawaii's injuries lead to all sorts of "what if" questions, but they are exactly that, pure speculation. Is Hawaii on a downward trend? I don't think so, just that their dominance at the top of the WAC heap is no longer a given. Otherwise, aaronic would not have led off this topic worrying about Hawaii having to play UNR, SJSU and UI in the WAC tournament. I disagree. I don't think NMSU's matches against the Wahine last season prove anything. Nevada, in years past, came just as close to beating Hawai'i. People were talking about Nevada the same way as they are talking about NMSU, and Nevada is still winless vs Hawai'i. NMSU got lucky in Las Cruces, Dave Shoji knows it, Mike Jordan knows it, and The Wahine know it. Hawai'i should right the ship this season and avenge the earlier loss to the Aggies. Next season Hawai'i loses its All American setter and 2 valuable pieces of this years Wahine team, but they regain three starters who were lost for the season due to injury. The Aggies have far more to replace. Some things change, and some things stay the same. I sincerely doubt that Hawaii's players and coaches are treating tonight's game like NMSU is LA Tech. I don't think they are either, that is why I'm predicting an ass whipping by the Wahine.

You would think that CSTV would co-op with your local TV station and tape delay this match. It's really not that hard, as NETV does it. I hate having to sit around until tourney time before I can see Hawaii play. (no I don't feel like paying for it) IB and BIK you need to work on that. CSTV doesn't even have to send a crew over there. All they have to do is slap their little logo on the upper right hand part of the screen. K5, a local station, televises every Wahine home match. I'd guess that CSTV could work out a deal with K5. I'd rather you guys not have the luxury of watching though. Aw, now that's just plain selfish. Plus how do we know you are giving us accurate information about your team if we can't see them?

I'm assuming the Hawaii fans will not be that vulgar. There's no place for it. I've also noticed it tends to happen with teams that are just coming into their own. (the fans that is) A lot of new volleyball fans (i.e students) have a hard time differentiating between enthusiasm and just being plain immature. There are plenty of clever cheers that don't have to involve vulgarity. For example I thought Texas's of chant of "Sarah's better!" (Holloway's sister) was quite clever and funny. Besides that, judging from those 3 pics in the beginning of the thread I don't see how you can say anything vulgar about them. (no I'm not a pervert) but let's call a spade a spade, they are nice looking young women.

If there are obnoxious fans, I guarantee you the SSC security will kick them out. Fans can't do much in there without security reprimanding them. Anyway, I'm off to the game. I hope the Wahine win! I have confidence in you! Aloha seniors

I doubt there will be any rude fans there. I'm staying home tonight. Wait... is it not supposed to be televised by K5? That was the whole reason I was staying home. A little popcorn, some sodas and my fort made from pillows. That's a good time!

For example I thought Texas's of chant of "Sarah's better!" (Holloway's sister) was quite clever and funny. I think this is a great observation. Many times, the "old school" fans tend to be more reserved. I think this is why you see places like Hawaii and Nebraska with fans who are not as vulgar. There is an established way to handle opposing teams. Newer fans come in and see the way the older fans act and define their behavior accordingly. However, newer teams with a younger fan base tend not to have that established. Those rules are not set. Many come in treating volleyball like basketball and that's not really the way college volleyball is handled. College volleyball tends to be a somewhere between basketball and tennis. In basketball, fans can be shouting for the entire game. In tennis, you are not supposed to make noise until the point is over. Volleyball is somewhere between that. You can make noise for the entire match, however the flow of the game doesn't fit it the way basketball does, so emotionally, its hard to sustain cheers for the entire match.

We knew the guys were being obnoxious but trust me when I say I had no idea of what they were saying to your team. Wow - I'm pretty embarrassed to say the least.

I just spoke with my friend who is at the SSC right now. He says the energy is undeniable. And the Wahine are warming up in sleeveless 'racer-back' black stretch tops. Apparently they look quite intimidating.
Yippee! ;D LET'S GO BOWS!!!!!!!!!
