One other thing, BYU clinches MPSF top seed. Long Beach can still match conference records, but BYU won the season series 2-0 for the tiebreaker.

Where did you read about it? Did you listen to it? I haven't seen anything posted yet. Do you have a link?

Wow, they did it w/o Victor Batista. Good for Cory Carpenter to step in and play a role in the win. Blocking played a significant role in the match it appears, from the closeness of the games. BYU outblocked UCLA 12.0 to 7.0.

Guess Farting Al won't be able to play golf tomorrow, he'll have to actually work up a gameplan to try to beat BYU tomorrow night.
Of course...he could be sandbangging the MPSF regular season, like he always does.

Noone here can hold a candle to what this man has done in this sport. Especially you, BBob.

Heh-heh. Meaningless numbers. You don't know Al, so give it a rest. Isn't this from the same guy that went off about people "in the know?" Besides, you don't have to know the man to respect him. A quality you are seemingly void of being able to do.

Never said I knew Al. Just said that you didn't. What does that prove?! I don't claim to be a men's volleyball guru or superfan. It was implied in the way you said it.

Agree with Barcelona Bob on his comment about Al's "numbers". He might have a gazillion titles but what it boils down to is respect from the volleyball community especially the coaching community in particular.
If you have read volleyball books, most of them mention Doug Beal, coach 1, coach 2 as examples in their books but very, very little on Scates!
You can ask the book writers how they feel about Scates!

You can ask the book writers how they feel about Scates! I sort of agree with this. You don't see him in a lot of books about volleyball and volleyball technique. But I sort of think that doesn't cover everything. If a book was written back in the 70s or 80s, you would probably see Scates as the star for that book. Nowdays, he doesn't do anything really technical to win. He simply has the ability to recruit the best players and has the most talent and depth than any other team in the nation. He also has the nasty habit of getting his team hot at the right time, like in 2000. He was the fourth seed (or something like that) in the MPSF tournament, with Long Beach, Pepperdine, and USC ahead of him. His team still won the MPSF tournament and got the ticket to the Final Four and won the title. That is stuff you can't really put down in a book. Whether or not other coaches like or hate him, you can't take away his accomplishments. You have to give the devil his due.

I don't think he is despised by other coaches. It's just that he really has given that much back to the volleyball community!

What do you mean, give back to the volleyball community?
