Last time the Wahine took teams lightly, they got spanked. Remember LMU last year? Also, UH lost to LMU in the first round in 1997 when LMU had Sarah Noriega. This should be an LMU thread, come to think of it.

It looks as if the key for the Wahine is to just play hard/error free and let the Ducks make the mistakes

yes, she hits like a guy. but she makes a lot of mistakes at the same time. hawaii should win, but this will not be an easy task. congrats to them making it to the tournament. they went from never winning, to winning, to the tournament. Hey, they needed those national team players to jump start the program. they did, now they will get better players.

Oregon's Serbs played on the JUNIOR national team - big difference from the paid NT players and no different that any of the US players in the NCAA who were on the US JNT. They are solid contributors and have helped the Ducks turn the corner, but addition by subtraction was probably the top factor in Oregon's turnaround. The Ducks will add one more Serb (not a JNT or NT player) next year off a redshirt, but their three signed recruits are from the States.

I guess the real concern was that they played on a high-level club team in a league where teams paying their players is a possibility. If the Oregon compliance folks think that these players check out, then I have no problem. Frankly I don't think it's that big an issue if these players are coming in at a normal age (17-19) for college freshmen. What seems to be rubbing a lot of people the wrong way are players who are coming in at a more advanced age (and physical maturity) with maybe 4-5 years playing high-level club VB instead of 1-2 years.

I just finished watching those oregon interviews and I thought it was pretty weird how Bitter was really serious about staying away from the topic of playing against Sarah Mason. It wasn't really a respectful way, it was more of like a 'stop talking about it before i start thinking about it'---bad way. I wonder what the heck is up? Moore sounds super confident and somewhat cocky in the way he thinks he'll beat Hawaii no matter what. Just for that I want the Wahine to get out their guns and shoot down all those green ducks!!! But what concerned me the most was how confident Moore was in his team's blocking.... that must mean something!!! The good news is that he said that he had a hard time with UCLA because they like to use the middle a lot.... hopefully passing holds up so the middles can get involved. Also that must mean that their blocking on the outside must be pretty effective... this obviously does not bode well for the Hawaii offense. Hmm.... let's hope Mason and Houston can play as well as they did against Texas last season.... This sounds like it's going to be a tough first-rounder.....

Hate to bring it up but the last time Hawaii played Oregon in the first round of the NCAA's -- they lost. It was 1984 and the Wahine had lost 7 seniors from the previous years back-to-back Championship teams but it was still a shocker because they should have won.
I know Shoji and the team won't be taking any team lightly.

I also watched the interviews and didn't think Moore or the Oregon players said anything inflamatory. He sounded confident but also admitted he knows litle about the Wahine this year. The "We play in the PAC 10, and have seen it all" confidence is understandable but they will be playing Hawai'i, not Joe Blow university. Hawai'i has been here many times before. It is not an unfamiliar situation or setting for the Wahine. They know what they have to do, and are eager to make it back to the SSC for their regional. Hawai'i has been improving over the last couple of weeks and are playing very well. I totally expect to watch them play USC or whomever at the SSC next week.
