Anyone know how good the Ducks are this year?
WEre they the ones that was able to take a game off of the Huskies earlier this season?--- I swear I thought OSU were the ones....
Anyway... how good is this team because if this is the team that was able to take a game off the Huskies this season, than I am a little worried.....
A PAC10 team is always a challenge.,...

According to their web site, they've got three Serbian girls, two of whom played on the Serbian Junior National Team. I'm always wary of teams with lots of foreign players

Oregon is a huge team that runs a double-sub-every-three-rotations 6-2. If their serving and blocking are on, they can be very difficult to put away... but no one really knows how good they are right now: they've lost their last seven matches. Before that, they had taken a game off UW in Seattle (more than Stanford had done), beaten Cal 3-1 in Berkeley, swept Wazzu at home, looked like an NCAA tournament lock and more like an upper-division Pac-10 team than Cal. Their first loss in that streak could be painted as a moral victory... they took Washington to five games, held them to a steadily decreasing hitting percentage and lost 14-16 in the fifth game... and losing to USC and UCLA on the road and Stanford at home was no great sin. It was giving up splits to Cal, Arizona State and non-NCAA tournament-invitee Arizona, all of whom they had beaten in the first half of the season, that hurt their season the most.

Oregon is the real duck this year... not a good first-round matchup, especially considering they beat Long Beach State, who is the potential second round opponent.

What the hell was up with Long Beach, they hit for only .061 and give up 20 blocks. Is Oregon that good, or was LBSU just having an off night. Playing that way, LBSU still won a game and kept it close in another.

There is a girl on the Oregon Team #9. She can hit balls like cannons. She is an incredible server when she's on. But, she is not consistant. She has an incredible arm....

Oregon runs a 6-2, so uses six hitters. Because they use 2, sometimes 3 setters they can get a little out of synch. Newcombe, a freshman, is the best, and gets used at all spots along the front. Over 6 feet and can hit from everywhere. They will go to her if she is in front and things are tight. Djuric, a sophomore, hits the ball as hard as anyone in the Pac 10, but good luck knowing where it's going. Had the highest aces avg. for awhile in Pac 10, but coach won't let her serve lately because of high error percentage. duck if you're in teh front row. against Cal and Stanford their rotation had Djuric and Newcombe next to each other, so when they are back row Little is go to player. Senior, experienced, but experienced at losing, as the programs record has been dismal up to this year. Enesi is another freshman with flair who rotates along the front, but not as polished at putting away as Newcombe. Bitter and Waddington are basically middles, who don't score a lot on offense. Middle hits usually come on x moves and follows by Necombe, Djuric, etc. not quicks to bitter and Waddington. Oregonreally has not learned to close the deal on close games, and get stuck in funny rotations at times. Setters do a lot of flat footed dinks on 10 foot line passes, and Madison, a setter, has a good short serve. Djuric is fun to watch, and one of those players you fel like asking your blockers to start to jump, thenn stop and keep their hands down, then watch to ball go over the end line still going up after she pelts it.

Yep. Oregon can really disrupt your game with strong serving and a fast offense. Their libero is very good as well. Their downside is that they commit lots of errors -- plus as others have mentioned they didn't finish the season as well as they started. If you want to go that far back, this is the same Oregon team that was once favored by Pablo to beat UCLA (at Oregon). The bottom line is that we don't know how good they'll be in that first round match. If they can pull it together they're quite dangerous.

is this the team that Sarah Mason used to be a part of? As well as Dariam Acevedo. If you really want to play the all-star transfer game, try Washington State for last season. It's mind-blowing how good the players who transferred out were. Names include Kristen Carlson, Jennifer Todd, Brenn Larson, and Victoria Prince.
