I think 12-14 players is the generally the number of players you have on an All-Conference team....which is about the same number of players you have on an actual team. I like the All-Freshman thing, I wish the Big 12 would put together a team. What I don't like is having 3 players sharing the same honor (Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year), that's a true cop out!
It must have been very tough to pick the Pac-10 POY. I too am suprised, thought Spicer, Merriweather, or Thompson would get it. But I do like Morrison too.

How do they decide who will make the team. When you go back through the stats for the season, it doesn't make a lot of sense. It seems to be that an equal or better player by individual stats have no chance if they are not on one of the top teams in their league. Does this have a lot to do with politics....doesn't make sense other wise. Pac-10 seems to have the same names for player of the week also. How about stand out players that excel but do not get the recognization because their not on a top team. Sick of the politics ! These teams are voted on by the Pac-10 head coaches. Stats alone are a lousy way to judge volleyball talent. That being said, just take a look here and see who on the list isn't among the conference-only stats leaders. The top two in hitting are on the list, as well as the top 4 in kills/game. I guess one can't account for Richards making it again (I would have thought Rourke or Copenhagen maybe) but that's the way the coaches voted. www.pac-10.org/sports/w-volley/stats/2006-2007/confonly.html

What better way to judge on this than stats. Since other coaches do not see most players more than twice during the season, I would think stats would play a big part.
Dominique Lamb did not have a great season, but on the list, Nicole Morton isn't listed as a starter, but on the list??

Sheesh, 39 players honored by all of the teams.
I agree that Meriwether should have been POY. Hopefully she will get NPOY.

How about stand out players that excel but do not get the recognization because their not on a top team. 3. Sick of the politics ! 1. This is exactly how it works. 2. This is their own problem... They better start looking to transfer out 3. You're not alone ...but hey, who can say life is fair?

What a cop-out! 14 people all conference and 12 honorable mention, then 7 on all Freshman. Obviously can't make a choice, so just include everyone. /sign

Problem is when UCLA struggles, it tends to be their passing going off, and Merriwether becomes a nonfactor on offense. Not her fault, but this prevents her from shining all the time.

COY: I understand the reward to Coach Moore, but do have reservations about how they improved so rapidly with the recruiting of foreign players who clearly had big careers in Europe.
POY: Nana you are the best!
FOY: Sonja----> you are the best!! Many skilled setters could have set that USC team, but Sonja made Oregon the contender they are.

I know that most have said there isn't just one difference maker in the Oregon team, but Sonja really puts the spark here. She is called the "eraser" in there because she erases the mistakes that the team makes.

Makes me wonder how effective the great Meriwhether would be if she had just an average D-1 setter instead of perhaps the best setter in the country setting her balls

The numbers she puts up while playing the Pac 10 are undeniable.

No comparison between these two...the correct player in the PAC-10 got POY! Before you start talking about National POY just remember that her team must be in the FF to get that recognition.....

Not true. Stacey Gordon was co-NPOY and tOSU did not make the FF. I am sure there are other examples, but that comes first to mind.

congrats Chris! and the rest who were honored. I know a lot of other players deserve this as much as Morrison, but you can't deny that when things got tough (and the passing was bad) that ChrisMo was the one who took the swing, front or back row. Not particularly true with any other team in the conference. I think she deserves it as much as Barboza, Thompson, Spicer, Nana, or anybody else... She just happened to be the one who got it.
