Has anyone heard who is being considered for the USF head coaching position. Have they started interviews?

USF doesn't pay well. You need some $$$ to live and enjoy San Francisco. I mean, how long can you live on Tung Kee Vietnamese noodles ($4.75) or cheap Chinese take-out ($3.95 lunch special) or McDonald's ($4.99 for a #1 Combo) before you start to feel excluded from SF society? Soon, the Golden Gate Bridge and Transamerica building will represent all that is beyond your reach in SF. Then, it's time to leave. It's really depressing. Explains most of the suicides off the Golden Gate Bridge.

Head Coach and Asst Coach position just posted on the USF website as of Tuesday this week...2/13/07. One would think they would have had some if not many applications to already have begun winnowing. Hopefully they can start interviewing quickly or these hires will not happen till April. Sad.

What is the pay like at San Francisco? I can't imagine it being more than $65 grand. Although it is a buyers market in the housing craze in that area so maybe you can find a good deal. What assistant coaches out there would be good candidates? I would think there are a few that think it would be worth the financial risk to get their feet wet as a head coach in a very pricey town.

You don't have to live in SF to coach at USF. Later morning commute and coming home after rush hour has had folks who coach at SF State and USF live in the eastbay. Around here a 40 min commute is considered perfectly ok.....and many are 2+ hours or more each way... daily gas prices notwithstanding.
Maybe 5-7 years ago, I think it was, the good Brothers at USF made a commitment to 'upgrade' all the athletics programs and apparently get their teams to be in the upper 1/2 to upper third of their conference and were putting some $$ in the program to go in that direction. I don't have current info., but they may have found that a tougher row to hoe than they anticipated. Moving teams up is big, long term commitment...and while necessary at times to put in some chunks of support, it makes getting more skilled coaches and athletes very important....and reduces the pool you can choose from. I am not sure USF has the wherewithal to do that....altho that can be said about lots of colleges.
Did I miss prior info on VT that two offers were made and turned down?
