OK I understand this is the roster for the A2 team, and that about 11 additional players are on the National training team roster, but what happened to more well known players that tried out. I cannot find them listed on any team roster. Players like Foluke and Cynthia B. as well as some of the others. Can anyone shed some light?

According to the original press release about the tryout, it was for identifying players to be added to the "U.S. Women’s Volleyball National Team, U.S. Women’s A2 Team and U.S. Women’s Junior National Team." Maybe some players from the tournament will be invited to train with the National Team.

I would think that those 2 with Larson and Stalls, would be joining the National Team.

I think there is the National Team Roster then the National Training Team Roster then the A2 roster in tems of hierarchy. From what I was told, they will have this big group of players that will comprise the National and National training team excluding the A2 team. The National team composed of mostly overseas professsional plus some collegiate players (potential Olympians) will play the major tournaments. The National training team which will have a good balance of overseas and college players will go to the Pan Am games in Brazil. Some of the A2 players could be brought up for the Pan Am games but other than that will mostly train at the OTC and play in the Adult Nationals. A player had commented to me that if that is the case with the A2 then it is better not to accept the offer. She will have more fun playing Adult Nationals with some of the collegiate players.

So does anyone know when may we expect USA Volleyball to release the A1 training squad roster?

I would say that there will be less than 2 or three of the best available players on the A1 roster. USA Volleyball needs to address why these players are not dying to be in the national team programs. 15 years ago, everyone of those asked would be.

Go Jamie! Go Jamie!
Love that girl. Dave Shoji/Charlie Wade really knew how to pick'em. Awesome article. Interestingly, noone on the list can compare with here in kpg. Awesome. I can't wait until season starts. Anyone know when they'll be showing these matches (USA Ball)?

Do I sense some cynicism about the level of overall competition against which Ms. Houston attained those numbers?

According to the statistics on the UH website she hit .260 (174k, 69 err, 403 att) vs the teams they played who were ranked in the top 25. five of those of those matches were against teams who did not end up in the top 25 (NMSU 3 and Pepp 2) 260. is good not great.

Cbrown.... you hit the nail right on the head.... only person missing was Marcie Hampton. I think this experience is going to amazing things to Larson's game. I hope she sticks with hit. She could be a starter in Bejing.

Stalls, is a fine player, but not an international player by any stretch. I know they wanted others, Hodge, Fawcett, Harmotto, Houghtelling and I am sure others besides. These kids along with Foluke and company fit the build.

Well, in matches she played against top-25 teams, she averaged over 5 kills a game. I don't think anyone mentioned anything about hitting percentage, and I do agree that she needs to bring that number up, especially against the top teams, but the point is, she puts the ball down.
