You know, all this discussion about the women's game internationally made me go review the 2004 Athens gold medal match. The thing about Gamova that is, to me, most impressive, isn't her hitting. That's a given. It's her blocking that impresses me the most. For her size, she is amazing quick laterally, and her hand position and her ability to read hitters is superior. If you get a chance to see her play in person, get to the match an hour or so early and watch her play pepper! I was shocked the first time I saw it! As 38 says, she is surprisingly quick! I think it was Tebenikhina who got faked out on that pump (must have been if it was the brunette). China was really great in 2003 and 2004. I love watching the rotations with Liu and Zhou in the front row at the same time. Liu would hit the tight slide, and Zhou would read the LF blocker and either hit the wide slide or the 2. Feng made the correct set an awful lot!

SO, does anyone know if Merriweather has an interest in playing on the WNT?

Yeah, she is highly skilled and remarkably coordinated. I think a lot of folks think that she's just a tall girl who can hit the ball. Her height is a great advantage, but she knows how to use that advantage and that makes her a great player.

Relatively positive that Nana Merriweather is not interested in playing 6 man when she gets home from Puerto Rico. Westwood buzzz says she is interested in beach, and is going to head for Medical School.
