Cook did a home visit w/ Salvo and Salvo has visited campus in Lincoln...do you think he asked her to 'greyshirt'? From the picture the Kid is painting, sounds like Minch wasn't ready, didn't develop the way Cook thought she would. Salvo wouldn't fall under that category, obviously. This is another problem with the early commitment. Perhaps we'll get enough cautionary tales to get players to think twice about early commits, maybe college coaches will get burned enough to stop pressuring kids to make them.

This is not about a college coach getting burned. This is about an 18-year-old getting burned by a college coach. College volleyball is getting more and more like college basketball, football and baseball. Baseball just added the one-year out transfer because so many college programs were operating like minor league franchises. It is scenarios like the one at Nebraska that will eventually haunt college volleyball. This is a joke when a coach pulls a schollie from a player because he screwed up his recruiting and needs the schollie for somebody a little bit better. It is complete Bullbutter.

OHIOVB, I will agree with you, but to me the way things are going there is so much about me. If Nebraska keeps doing well kids and parents alike won't even care about what has transpired. They just want something gooD to happen to them therfore, will take what ever is given to them as long as what they want is met. ESTRELLA

Wow - home visit.....well you can't say he was lying when he said there would not be any additions to the 2007 roster because she won't be eligible if she goes to Nebraska .....very slick with his words if this home visit really happened....no coincidence here....credibility went south badly for Cook.

What is this "good" that parents and kids seek? It's not like committing to Nebraska or Hawaii or Florida or Penn State or wherever is going to help them in their volleyball career. It's a dead end sport after college. Sure there are opportunities in Europe, Puerto Rico, Japan, and Brazil, just to name a few, but it can't be fruitful in the long run. Best to just pick a school based on its academics and make future plans outside of volleyball. But then, maybe these kids and parents know ONLY volleyball. Sad, really. Where have the Renaissance people gone to?

Wolfgang, I'm shocked and horrified that you would end a sentence with a preposition! Where have the Renaissance people gone to?

None of what has been "reported" here is based on fact. It is all rumor and inuendo and people filling in missing rumor with more rumors and inuendos.

Just in case anyone wants to know, Minch is doing well......................................This article was in the Denver Post this last weekend.
all-state games - volleyball Minch works in a pinch in all-star matchup By Jon E. Yunt Denver Post Staff Writer Article Last Updated: 06/09/2007 11:46:53 PM MDT
Greeley - You almost have to feel sorry for the floor when Danielle Minch spikes a volleyball.
The Sterling standout bound for Colorado State paced the Black team with 19 kills in a thrilling 25-21, 25-20, 20-25, 19-25, 15-12 victory Saturday in the championship game of the Colorado Coaches All-State Games at Butler Hancock Gymnasium.
"It was just a lot of fun playing with the people I normally play against and just playing with new players," said Minch, whose club team has been on a one-month hiatus before gearing up for national tournaments.
Minch, whose competitive juices never seem to stop flowing (exhibition game or not), made her mark on the match at end of the second game. Powering the sets of Plateau Valley's Katie Hockett, Minch closed out the Red team with three powerful kills.
"She's amazing, just an all-around great motivator for this team," said Black team coach Jan Phelps of Erie. "She gets up on top of the ball and puts it down, and she can place it in the air while she's deciding, and she's very good at reading the block. I'm excited to see what she does in college."
Not to be outdone, the Red, coached by Valley's Rene Aafedt and Michelle Chacon, used a variety of attackers to extend the match. Two kills from Valley's Devin Eckhardt and a big block by Windsor's Brittany Benningsdorf helped the Red close out the third game on a 7-3 run.
Momentum extended into the fourth and Highlands Ranch's Samantha Bristol recorded one of her team-high seven kills on the final point of the game to extend the match.
"It's all about just trying to have fun, but the competitive juices start to flow after a while," said Bristol, who will play next season at Pennsylvania's Juniata College, the reigning NCAA Division III champion. "This team worked well together and we clicked right away, and I think that carried us in the end."
The Black team, which had been extended to five games in each of its two previous matches, ran a precision offense down the stretch, recording nine kills in the 15 points. Besides Minch, Wray's Leah Kettleson, Peetz's Kristin Gardiner and Cheraw's Samantha Rohde got into the mix.
"We had to make it interesting. We just wanted a lot of court time I guess," Phelps said. "It was a lot of fun. I had a great team and what a wonderful experience."
