Isn't it better than none? ESTRELLA No. There are plenty of financial aid / scholarship programs out there so that the volleyball team can give 12 players the experience of a lifetime. I get it....screw those that can't! ESTRELLA

ESTRELLA Yeah, didn't say that. But following your logic, why should there be intercollegiate athletics? Why should anyone get scholarships? That's denying money that could go to some kid so they can go to college.

If the money they are using is money provided to the program for team season development I would have an issue. If it is money they raised.....who cares, it is their money. I would not have a problem with not having athletic scholarships. Kids go to these schools today not because they are Wisconsin, they go because they will provide them with financial help (more true than not). Lets go back to the old days. I go to school x because I want to get my education from it. At the same time I would like to reprseent that school playing sports. That seems like lots of fun if I get picked! Please remember that they are Student-Athelets....not Athlete-Students! ESTRELLA

I hope the team has a wonderful time. Our team postponed their Italy trip until next summer in order to raise a little more money.

I am too much of a doof to link to the article, but a sunday Wisconsin State Journal article, available at madison.com, discussed the Badgers' upcoming trip. Basically, it discussed the trip and how banged up the squad had been over the spring season. The good news is that it seems that the team is getting healthier and might actually have a full squad playing for once. It seems that DuPont, Reineke, and McCormack, who missed the last spring match, will be playing, and Jeffers, who had back surgery in April, is now practicing and might be able to play on the trip. Thus, things might finally be improving for the team, although I guess Dolgner is working her way back from having strep throat.

This is the link: www.madison.com/wsj/home/sports/badgersOther/index.php?ntid=136747&ntpid=2When Waite told the team "to focus on and aim for the foreign trip" during the spring season, he wasn't kidding. No one expected the string of bad health and injuries to befall the team like it did in the spring. As soon as the Badgers pulled out of the NCAA Spring Challenge (Aurora, IL) in April, I knew the squad was in trouble. Like the spring season, the Badgers will not be concerned with results as much as they will focus more on playing time and getting healthier. Waite and his staff will not overextend anyone, nor should fans expect it. The Big Ten was the strongest conference in the country last year, and next season, with more than half of the squads coming in with strong freshmen classes, it will be even more difficult for the Badgers to maintain its perch near the top. The greatest advantage for the Badgers will be their senior leadership, but heck, they have to be healthy from Day 1 in 2007. The Badgers will become stronger as a unit as a result of the Europe trip. Nothing will decimate the bonding experience gained from visiting other cultures. And if you have never traveled abroad for an extended period of time, you won't know about the enrichment aspect. I know, since I studied a year in Paris, traveled extensively while I was over there, and have gone back to Europe now and then. (I'm on my third passport). Let's hope the Badgers can maintain their health, avoid injuries, enjoy the atmosphere of other lands, and most importantly, let them bond.

As all four final four teams had overseas trips, perhaps Wisconsin will get over the hump and go to Sacramento next year; perhaps also USC, who is traveling. But Big 10 the best conference? Old argument performed elsewhere, but beg to differ in favor of the Pac 10, at upper and middle levels at least.

(Excuse the unformatted copy/paste)
NCAA Tournament: # of Conference Participants - Pac 10: six - Big 10: seven
# of teams advancing to Regionals - Pac 10: five - Big 10: five
Draw your lines where you want. The Pac 10 had three final four teams in the NCAA tourney. But the bottom of the Pac 10 are weaker than the bottom three of the Big Ten. The top four teams in the Pac 10 are the strongest, and they outgun the top two from the Big Ten (PSU, Minnesota) or the Big 12 (Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas).
My statement about strongest is specific to the entire conference from top to bottom. The Big 12, with national champ Nebraska, and its strength at the bottom, could be the best conference based solely on results and stats.
