Long Beach over BYU in 5.
Both teams are playing great. I don't think Lewis or Penn State will be victorious playing either MPSF team this year. Just a hunch that LB will be playing better than BYU in a match at Hawaii. Also, I would like to see a team win without any possibility of having the championship stripped away later. I don't think I have heard anything going on at the Beach that could lead to that. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Good luck to all the teams participating in the NCAA final four.

Personally, I hope all the games are sweeps, or you know that ESPN will cut out all the juicy parts in order to make time for bowling and luging.

LBSU won their one and only NCAA championship in Hawaii (granted it was at the Blaisdell and not the SSC), so I'd say the islands have been good to them.
Barring a major upset in the semis, it'll be BYU/LBSU again for the championship. I like LBSU's chances this time. Funny how the two teams with the best setters in the country (Moreno and Hildebrand) are also the best teams in the country. I think LBSU should serve Olmstead myself, I don't think he's that good a passer.

I am enjoying the anti-BYU posture of the whole VB world. 3 against 1 in the Tournament.
How does a team get this hated?

I'm not anti-BYU, I just gave an honest assessment of what I think will happen in the Final Four.
Matter of fact, I've always liked BYU through the years. McGown is a stand-up guy, and so is Peterson. Although sometimes during matches Peterson does tend to get a bit whiney with the refs when protesting calls.
But, as a program, I think BYU has always carried themselves well. And they've certainly had some terrific players through the years. And they've also made some tremendous impact in the coaching community, especially when you consider how many Team USA assistants right now are BYU alumni.
Who can forget the year (1997) they won the UCSB invitational wearing athletic department t-shirts with magic marker numbers, because their new uniforms for the season hadn't arrived in time for them to wear them at the pre-season tournament?

I just have a hunch that Long Beach will beat them this time if they meet up in the finals. My reference to having a team win that does not have any chance of being stripped of its title is not anti-BYU, it is anti-contreversial. Unless someone tells me something different, I think Long Beach has less of a chance of having a title stripped than BYU (again, assuming the two face each other in the finals). Again, good luck to all four teams and congratulations on your seasons and post season tournaments.

Last year this board turned anti-BYU and anti-LDS. Being a BYU student, I am used to it. BYU is hated on almost every sport. There used to be a BYUsucks.com website.
Everyone was pulling for BYU to lose in football in 2001 when they were No. 8 in the nation. A few years earlier they were the number 5 team in the nation and got snubbed from the Fiesta Bowl.
Last year everyone wanted BYU to lose in basketball because the school's policy not to play on Sunday would screw up the bracket.
In rugby that same policy had BYU banned from the postseason until this year.
It was much easier being a Fresno State fan because no one knew who we were except for David Carr, Tarkanian and Skip to my Lou.

You have to admit that BYU's practices elicit more speculation than other programs. The oldest player on Long Beach's team turned 22 in March. Other schools are very similar to LBSU and do not have older players or a lot of foreign players. I think that was one of the problems everyone had with Lewis last year - their Final Four team only had one or two American's on the court.

Before my predictions...Some observations: -I think LBSU went to the outside too often and that hurt them in the end. -Hildebrand has a sweet mullet -The EIVA and MIVA finals looked like JV games taking place before the Varsity MPSF game. -Both MPSF teams have far superior ball control and more of an ability to have a well-balanced attack.
But my predictions: BYU in 4 LBSU in 3
LBSU in 5

I think that was one of the problems everyone had with Lewis last year - their Final Four team only had one or two American's on the court. Lewis starters last year: Fabby, JR., Gustavo...there you go: then Ryan S. Jeff Soler, James Elsea and Kevin Miller. Occassionally JJ would serve and Greg or Enrique would come in, but rarely. Shall we look at BYU? ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) ? Alleman (28)I think, same age as JR Batista, Hillman, Moreno, Pessoa so here is 3 foreign players and 1 older player... Please someone tell me where there is going to be a different controversy that what people said about Lewis besides Lewis had different recruiting rules that were not as stringent as a Div 1 team....cough cough....and that Lewis wasn't suppose to win because no one thought they could. Vballmom, I understand you aren't sticking up for BYU, I"m just pointing out the obvious, for those who refuse to look at it.
