If the Dallas Cowboys are "America's Team" could BYU be the "Anti-America's Team?" Doubt it, only this forum's anti-team. They have too big of a fan following and crowd wherever they go to be as hated as you think they are. John also wants to go to law school as well as get his CPA. There is BIG money in having both degrees. It was bad like someone said that they say one thing and then show him saying he wants to get his CPA. Heather did that a few times tonight--said how something never happens and then it happens. Avoid extreme comments lady. I thought they really overplayed Victor's grenade throwing antics and throwing the ball at the ball-girl story. Someone on here said that night that he just refused to pick up a ball or something when she threw it to him. Way different story than what they were telling. Also as I am rewatching the match w/ my DVR (a blessing--being able to rewatch stuff automatically and not rely on ESPN to replay something. Some of those back line calls on the serves were iffy. And Chris's use of the words "loosey-goosey" was enough to get him fired. They both were really pro LBSU with most of their comments. Only 4 of those females they showed were wives, the rest were their friends. I sat by Johnny's following last season but don't recall his wife getting into the game that much. They don't do nearly as much as Heather and Chris let on.

The grenade thing, the ball girl, the bench press incident, the wives and the line refs looked like they were angry that this game was interfering with their vacation...hahaha.... Some of those line calls were bad for both teams.

So, most of the same things bothered me throughout this game probably to an even greater degree than the semifinals. Same lack of replays, poor choice of camera angles, terrible comments by the announcer. Me and the group I was with really were telling Heather Cox to STFU on every other play when she made some dumbass comment. Given Chris Marlowe's olympian history and his involvement with the game, I really would expect him to have some more insightful things to say during these matches.... too bad. I think my favorite example of the camera angle problem is that bad line call on the endline. They showed the replay from arguably the worst possible camera angle, in front of the ball. That really didn't help us to determine the call at all. However, there were a few things about this broadcast that improved by the end of the match. They did show a few replays towards the end that were actually the ones i wanted them to show (block cam on a roof and net calls), so I will say that while they still suck at choosing cameras, they appear to have improved ever so slightly over the course of the weekend. On a side note, I'm pissed off. The game went longer than expected so my recording stopped halfway through the fifth game ![:'(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cry.png) I honestly think that fifth game was one of the most exciting games i've seen on TV, a true battle.

oh, and I think my favorite thing from the evening was the large section of the crowd labeled "BYU Players' Wives". We couldn't help but burst into laughter at that one ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Chris has no choice in his announcing partner. ESPN picks her. He and Sunderland did a much better job together on their worst night, than he and Shoney-Cox have ever done on their best night.
ESPN needs to get a professional color/analyst person and needs to get better trained camera people (which was probably a Hawaiian crew).
All things said, I was just glad it was LIVE on TV. Anyone for tape delays?

Anyone for tape delays? Once again, you make bad assumptions. ESPN brings in their own production. They may use local camera operators, but ESPN calls the shots on where to set up and what to shoot, along with which cameras to use during the match from the truck. They've been using that stupid endline camera mounted on a boom since 1997. They should just set up a normal endline camera that doesn't move at court level so we can see the blocks form, and also how the hitter hits over/through/around the block. I can compare the ESPN broadcasts of the Final Four from 1998 and 2004 to any normal UH match shown on KFVE and easily tell that it was produced by two different crews.

P.S. The best color analyst for volleyball that I know of, was sitting in the endline seats with his club team, as I saw them everytime someone went back to serve on the Leeward side of the court. That was Chris McLachlin. They should have used him, but then again, he probably would have made Marlowe sound even more stupid than he already does.

Side-out was a volleyball movie and Randy Stoklos' character was named "Rolo." It is incredibly sad I know that because that movie was horrible. Well, Rocky got half the question right. The former beach pro was indeed Randy Stoklos, however, the movie in which he portrayed "Jock #2" is 1986's "Better of Dead" which starred John Cusack. As an aside, during the 1990 AVP Season, everyone took to heckling Stokie by his character name in "Sideout", which was Vincent Rollo. He and Sinjin would be in the middle of a heated match with Hovie/Dodd, and the fans would be relentless, calling him "Rollo, Rollo, Rollo". It was quite amusing.

Just a note to all of the future parents of players in the playoffs, wear a shirt like Mr. Hillman did, they must have shown him 20 -30 times during the broadcast.

I remember in the 1996 final that Tom Stilwell's dad did something similar (T-shirt and sign, and blue/gold bodypaint) and he got on TV a bunch as well.

Well the KFVE crew has more experience with the SSC. Not quite for the ESPN crew.
