...with PSU looking like they've pulled it together in the fifth -- up by three.

It would be great to see Illinois win against PSU. Illinois is really starting to click.

An offense would have to be mighty dominant to overcome 10 serve-receive errors, and -- despite efforts by Jones, Roehrig, Dieter and Gibbemayer -- this one is not dominant. 10 service errors in 5 games is fine. They just aren't very good. They need an outside attack, especially out of system, and they don't have the personnel for it. Unless Hartmann, Hagerty and/or Vatterrodt can step it up, this season is going to get uglier. 30-16?? 4 kills!!?

And you can't let NW hit .310 with 12 kills in a game 5.

I'm embarrassed for them..... Be embarrassed for yourself for making those kinds of comments rather than hoping they can figure things out in the 2nd half of the Big 10 schedule and be able to make a run in the NCAA touorament. This is one of the most competive seasons across the board for the Big 10 in years. If you're a fan your a fan regardless of match / seasons outcomes otherwise your a band wagon fan that's only there when the teams is dominating.

There has to be something going on with the team chemistry or maybe the weaknesses we all saw in the pre-season are rearing their ugly head and Big Ten teams who scout MN more really know how to use them to their advantage. In any case this is totally reminding me of the 2005 season where I went to the games and was bored....unfortunately that's how I've been feeling since the OSU game. Passing, setting, lack of offense....where do you start? I hope they can get it together for the second half of the season.

4 kills in g1, Gorf. That's beyond embarrassing. I'm all for supporting the team -- and I do -- but this is a true low point.

Are you kidding me.... I'm embarrassed that we lose to teams that we shouldnt. The Big Ten is not that competitive in comparison to the Pac 10. I'm a true blue Gopher fan and am in my own right to be embarrassed by this loss.

Where is the Gopher leadership??! That is the first year the Gophers have lacked a leader who is consistently on the court. Not that I'm knocking Jones's abilities as an athlete, but there isnt a consistent player who takes charge of a match. In all realities, it should be the setter, but Hartmann hasnt really shown a presence in a single match this season. They seem dependent upon their 3 starting freshmen to carry the leadership torch as well. I cant wait until Hartmann graduates.....

I still say it's not that hard to figure out: 1) They have no one who consistently puts the serve receive of their opponents on their heels. Gibby was the one who was doing it, but now she's making a lot of errors. So they then have to play great defense to score points. They're playing pretty good defense -- look at the hitting %s. They certainly don't have a server who's going to get them aces. Not a single jump-server on the team (who plays)! 2) Hagerty and Vatterrodt combined for more errors than kills at OH. They cannot score when they are out of system. If they're passing well, they can set Roehrig and the middles. They aren't passing that well -- and Roehrig's a liability out of system, although they'll live with that for her in-system kills and her blocks. They can't score. That makes it hard to outscore your opponent -- the name of the game. Lastly, they aren't getting good setting.

Hartmann's offense was actually fairly key in stretch of at least the 4th and 5th games. I didn't get home and start listening to the match until later in the 3rd game. They need to figure out something with the right side; either get Rachelle or Katie to cut down on attack errors or find someone else to play that position. Have you been to any practices lately? I wonder if Charde Phillips could play right side or if she's still a project at this point? Who else is available that could play right side. They've tried Rachelle, Katie, and Kelly with only moderate success from each. They also need to figure out some way to improve their serve receive. I wonder if they could go to a 2-3 person receive with their best fiew recevier. Gibby has been doing really well on defense but I don't know how she's done on serve recieve. It sure would be nice if the entire conference upgraded to the new stat software that includes the digs, dig attempts, dig errors; along with the same sort of stats for serve recieve attempts and such.

They weren't playing the rightside, Gorf. They were on the left. Unless they switched later on. Dieter was on the right.
Hartmann's offense??
They've been passing 3 all year except last weekend when they went to 2. I don't know what they did tonight. Gibby doesn't pass.
VB stats are so flawed. You can get into real trouble reading too much into them. But 4 kills in g1. That tells me a lot.

She gets so nervous at key moments in the game which then affects her performance and doesn't allow our hitters to shine. These girls need to learn to contain their nerves when it counts. There are some serious leadership issues going on. The Gophers need another decent setter so they can compete for the court time. Hartmann just gets to start. No one is behind her in line to push her to be better to win these games. I am not knocking Shneider but I think the coaching staff believes she is not tall enough to block in the big ten.

How many matches have they been player Brook right side and rotated Rachelle / Katie on the left?
I haven't been able to make it to matches for reasons you know of and they haven't had any video available on line for the Gophers for quite a while. I've not been following the rotations real well lately so I didn't catch that change.
Oh, hopefully they find a way to work things out before the end of the 2nd half of the conference season.
I may try to stop by to watch a practice or two next week if I can figure out which days and times of the practices.
