thought you would enjoy the santa barbara beaches more than the idaho prairies Well, that is true... I've grown to love the beach. Wolfgang, there are plenty of prairies here. I'm not so sure about the nuclear sites, up north anyway, they are all way down south in the "other" Idaho. You mean you own private Idaho...

She needs to be graceful and leave after this year. Let some new blood take over a program with such a rich tradition.

You'll all be dead before UCSB gets a new coach.

Well, my top two choices are Mike Ditka and Karch Kiraly. Now I know it's beneath Ditka, a manly man, to coach a sport like womens vball, but Karch did patrol the sands at State Beach.

Screw "new blood", screw "what's good for the program"...
People don't leave their jobs until:
1. they have a plan for the future, i.e., what am I going to do after this? 2. their financial situation is straightened out. 3. they get fired or laid-off or forced to resign.
Most importantly, it's the money. If they need the money, they won't quit their jobs! It's really simple.
You think she'll leave coaching for the good of the sport, for the good of the program, for the good of her profession? Get real. If that's the case, 1/3 to half of all coaches in America should resign after this season.

You'll all be dead before UCSB gets a new coach. Is that why my phone keeps ringing with an 805 area code and I get silence? I respectfully withdraw my nomination.

Wolfgang, if you knew half as much about volleyball as you have implied over the years, you'd know that this is complete BS as applied to Kathy. (And I think you do know it is BS.) Say what you want about Kathy, she lives and breaths volleyball. She does not do it for money. I think she will keep coaching as long as she believes that she is still capable, and she still has the passion.
