hitting a woman is bad enough but a PREGNANT ONE!
maybe we're just reading this all wrong? maybe hit accidentally hit her in a car accident type of situation. that's pretty bad too but its not as bad as a situation with him decking some woman with his fist or something.

Channel 8 news in Hawaii mentioned he also resisted arrest. They also mentioned this incident happened right after him and some of his teammates were out drinking.

Will this affect his standing with the Nat'l Team? Is there any clause in the contract re: criminal activity (if he even is guilty of anything)?
Gabe Gardner is getting married in Greece this week. I wonder if it was a bachelor party gone wild.

Yes indeed, generally speaking, hitting a woman is bad enough but hitting a pregnant woman is unfathomable, especially if you're a 6'5"+ athlete with muscles and shi'it. However, there are a lot of evil and bad women, pregnant or not. Did you ever meet some of those Greek women? I mean, heck, worse than Sicilian women!! The temper and the anger! It'll drive any man to violence and fascism.

Just saw it in todays issue of "7 days sport" - the biggest BUL sports paper: www.standartnews.com/7sport/olimpic/index.htmI'm guessing they published that because there are some BUL players in Stanley's club. Briefly: C. Stanley had been accused in physical and sexual abuse of a woman pregnant of eight months. According to the police they knew each other and the accident which happened Monday night (08/30) near Acropolis was a result of an emotional argument between them. Another police source reports that he has been dating her for some time. The health of the victim is out of any danger, Stanly is awaiting a “fast procedure trial”.

the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2004/Aug/31/sp/sp11a.htmlPosted on: Tuesday, August 31, 2004 Volleyball's Stanley charged with assault Honolulu Advertiser Staff and News Services U.S. Olympic volleyball player Clay Stanley was charged with assault yesterday, accused of hitting a pregnant woman during a scuffle in Athens, Greece. Stanley, a Kaiser High School and University of Hawai'i alum, was taken before a judge, and requested and received two days to prepare his defense. He was ordered held pending the trial. "Unfortunately all this stuff comes out, but nobody knows what exactly happened. We don't know. Nobody knows ... we have to wait for word on what actually happened," said Stanley's father Jon of Honolulu who has been in touch with his son's girlfriend, Desiree Duran, in Athens. Jon said he heard that the woman was riding by on a motorcycle with a male companion, possibly her husband, and Clay was either entering or exiting a restaurant with his volleyball teammates. An incident followed and Clay was eventually charged with hitting the woman, who is eight months pregnant. "Clay really doesn't know what happened as far as the incident with the women," Jon said. "It's kind of hard to believe that he would be walking by and hit a pregnant lady." Jon said a hearing would be tomorrow and many of Stanley's Olympic teammates were staying back. Stanley, who plays for the Panathanikos club team in the Greek pro league, finished seventh in the Athens Olympics with 110 points and second with 17 aces. He lives in Greece. The U.S. team was swept in its bronze-medal match against Russia on Sunday. The Americans finished 4-4 and had its highest finish in a dozen years. Stanley played for UH until 1999 and joined the national team in 2000. He did not play volleyball in high school because Kaiser did not have a volleyball team.

We still don't know what happened, so let's not assume guilty until it's proven. Sounds like a high drama love affair and ANYTHING could have happened, including some mischief on her side.

"Hit" can imply a lot of meetings. For all we know, he bumped into her in a crowded bar with his girlfriend (except I was home that night... hee hee) and her jealous outbreak of emotions led to calling the Greek National Guard. OMG... I watch too much All My Children.
