The last highly recruited Fab 50 of the 2005 class has committed.
Hawai'i has won the battle for the talented 6-2 volleyball player from Alabama. PrepVolleyball.com had her in the top 10 for the class of '05. I understand the schools that were looking at her were Florida, Penn State, and Hawai'i.
Some reckon her to the next coming of Kim Willoughby... most of us Hawaii fans are excited for the first glimpse of Jamie Houston. Her official visit last season caused a lot of stir among Hawai'i fans.
Welcome to the Wahine family, Jamie, and welcome as you complete the most talented roster in NCAA Volleyball.
Under her high school accomplishments: Three straight Class 5A Alabama titles (MVP of state tourney).
She also was part of the 2004 Junior National Team A2 Roster.
Gatorade Alabama 2003 State Player of the year. (Future teammate, Jessica Keefe earned this for Iowa, that same year).

Whoaa where did you get that info from?!!!!!! ... That's pretty awesome.....however Hawaii will have its hands filled with already about 5 outside hitters already! Well I guess she could start at middle....but hopefully in time we'll see how things naturally unfold.

No problem for Houston, Donahoo as titles reach 3 Thursday, January 06, 2005 By SKIP VAUGHN For The Times skipv@htimes.com Huntsville player, coach headline Super team
Three years, three championships. That's been Huntsville High's volleyball experience under coach Melanie Donahoo. In her three years at the helm, the Lady Panthers have won three straight Class 5A titles.
Donahoo is the Super All-Metro volleyball Coach of the Year for 2004 and senior middle hitter Jamie Houston is the Player of the Year.
"It's certainly an honor,'' Donahoo said. "There's a lot of good programs around.''
But none better than Huntsville's during her tenure.
Houston was a key reason for the Lady Panthers' success this year.
At 6-foot-2, Houston also plays basketball for Huntsville.
"Jamie's an outstanding athlete," Donahoo said. "Her potential is limitless.''
Houston plans to sign a volleyball scholarship in April.
Donahoo, 32, played basketball on scholarship at the University of Alabama-Huntsville from 1993-94. She played softball, basketball, tennis and volleyball in high school at Oak Hill Academy in West Point, Miss.
Defense was the key to this year's Huntsville team, according to Donahoo.
"As always we had to play really good defense and that was something we struggled with early,'' she said. "We had to work really hard on our defense. And I think playing together as a team was also very important.''
The Lady Panthers finished 59-11 with their third straight championship. Houston had 808 kills, 67 aces, 296 blocks and 403 digs.
Huntsville's 13 players included five seniors. Houston and her classmates will be missed.
"Next year's going to be a different kind of team,'' Donahoo said. "We're going to have to really work hard on fundamentals. We're not really going to be the power-hitting team that we have been. We've had a lot of strong hitters. We're not going to really have that.
"It was a wonderful experience (this year). And I was very fortunate. Very few coaches get this opportunity.''

With the addition of Houston, there is no way that Hawaii won't win the National Championship.

They are going to be so deep at OH next year and middle blocker for that matter. BTW is she a 2005 recruit? It seems kind of late. Recruits are signing up for 2006 and 2007 already.

For the record, #12 is not top 10.
Close enough, but let's be accurate.

Hawaii is stocking/stacking up really well. With all the talents, I wonder how close this team would come to matching the great senior class of Kim, Lily, Nohea, Maja, Lauren and Melissa. Too bad that class ran into the Stanford, Florida and USC juggernauts at the same time. It would be sweet to see another Kim W-type of player, if Jamie Houston comes as advertised.

Hawaii is stocking/stacking up really well. I'm getting dizzy just trying to keep track of so many players. Lots of new players/redshirts; lots of returnees. Not that I'm complaining. Glad to hear she made a decision. Dave, Charlie and Kari will have their hands full trying to evaluate the talent. I hope several of them are able to distinguish themselves from the pack. I'm just wondering, IB, do you know whether she is officially signed, sealed and delivered (i.e., signed LOI and received by UH) or if what you're reporting is just based on a verbal? The last I had heard was that she was planning to sign in the "April" signing period. I don't know when in April that period was supposed to be.

Great pick up for Hawaii, but let's not get our hopes up too much. There is still a lot of work that needs to be done before Hawaii gets to contend for a national championship.
I am amazed that Shoji was able to pick her up. I suspect that one of the underclassmen got an academic scholarship or something of that nature. Shoji doesn't have a single scholarship left for 2005 and 2006. Houston, being a top recruit, probably wouldn't walk on unless she really liked it here or she got a scholarship.

I'm telling you, Shoji will take all this talent and win it all.

The Kim and Lily era was a great one for Hawaii, however after their junior year I felt that they couldn't get any better. And as good as they were, it wasn't good enough to beat USC, Florida, etc. I feel that the 2004 team, as good as they are, they have so much room for improvement. I think if they keep improving, they can beat the top teams in the country. Hopefully the competition to be in the starting line up will be a good thing. Anyone think that with the increasing talent coming in, players might decide to transfer as is the case with Nebraska?

I was starting to think the same thing. I hope Hawai`i doesn't overload on talent and people end up transfering out.
It is great to have all this talent, but hopefully we can put all their talent together to create a TEAM. Because not necessarily the team with the most talent wins.
