Obviously the season isn't over yet, but what is everyone's feelings about who will get Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year?
POY: Hildebrand? Patak? Rooney?
ROY: Winder?

Yeah not Hildebrand...
I think Winder may be a good choice for ROY. We'll have to see how the season ends though.

Anybody other than Kowal get national player of the week more than once? Don't think so, but an EIVA player isn't going to win POY unless his team (in this case Penn State) wins it all.

Don't think so, but an EIVA player isn't going to win POY unless his team (in this case Penn State) wins it all. POY comes out before the national championship match. But Penn State would need to come out and really do some damage to the MPSF and top MIVA teams to be considered. Contreras won POY without winning the title that year. However, he was a major factor in Penn State winning the national championship in 1994, and everyone was keeping a close eye on him ever since he arrived at Penn State. I don't see any current Penn State player doing that. The last one to really get a lot of attention was Quineones.

Okay, so I've gotten back "not Hildebrand", "DEFINITELY not Hildebrand" and "no one currently on Penn State's team has enough pub to win"......
Is someone going to take a stand and say who IS going to win rather than who ISN'T?? .... or I'm I talking to a bunch of politicians.
I'll go out on a limb and say Evan Patak of UCSB.
He's 1st in Kills per game (.4 better than 2nd) He's 1st in points per game He's 2nd in Aces per game Also thanks to him, UCSB is fighting for 3rd in MPSF after several disappointing years ...
Those were the stats that Costas led the nation with when he won POY those couple times.

I think there is a very good case to be made for Patak... UCSB would be nowhere without him. However, politics make it very likely that Rooney will get the award.

It isn't all politics, but that can certainly play into it. The thing I've seen is it seems to be more of a body of work than one good year that gets you the award. For that reason you can probably rule out Winder as POY, but a very good ROY candidate.
Based on the numbers he has put up and the showing Pepp has had this year I'd put my money on Rooney getting POY.
Patak has had a great year, but probably needs to be a little more consistent to get over the top for POY.
Hildy will get first team AA, but don't see him as POY yet. Next year assuming he keeps playing the way he has been then I think he is a candidate.

I think Theo Brunner is a prime candidate for ROY from UCSB. 2nd in MPSF in hitting % at .509. Also adding .89 blocks per game and averaging 2.9 points per game. What do you guys think?

It is too bad that these awards have become so political. POW is another. Meerstein is "the other PSU MB." In the last week he had 51 kills (>.600), 15BA and 3BS...but will probably be overlooked again.
No matter how great he performs week after week, as "the other middle" his name is hardly even known.
