Must be some record considering Vogel is 18th in the nation in digs per game...
He's the only libero with 18 digs in 3 games..check out the AVCA site

I really intended to stay out of this discussion, but....
Rooney deserves to get POY. He is very talented player who plays well every single time he steps out onto the court. He is amazingly consistent. He does it all, he passes nails, hits for a great percentage, blocks very well, and serves aces.
I agree that Patak is a phenomenal player who crushes the ball, but there are other players out there who have a better hitting percentage - Rooney and Tarr for example - and Patak doesn't have to pass since he plays OPP. Patak will get his turn at POY, he will make All-American this year and he will probably be on the WUG team again this year.

While I'm at it, no one has mentioned Ivan Perez from BYU for ROY. I'm not a big BYU fan for obvious reasons, but Perez has played great and he is a true freshman (unusual for BYU). Patak got it as a red-shirt at UCSB last year. BTW, just in case there is any confusion inadvertently created by the previous poster, I'm not either of the Tyler's Moms, but I know them

I don't think Perez is a true freshman, he was being recruited back in '03 so he must have gone there during the fall of 2003... Anybody know something to the contrary?
That being said, yes he has done a great job as an outside putting up consistantly good numbers.

what about Grunst at Loyola? If Shane Davis is coach of the year for his work at Loyola, Grunst has to be ROY.

That might work except ... he's a sophmore!
He was the MIVA FOY last year.

If you compare Kowal's and Meerstein's season stats, Meerstein is as good if not better than Kowal... Yes that might not translate to a Player of the Week Award, BUT one would think that Meerstein deserves serious consideration for AVCA All-American... especially if Kowal wins. DAMN I'm good sometimes......

I agree that Perez should have been newcomer of the year. He had a great year, especially being a young player playing a power position. Andrew Vernon of USC also should get props. And the freshman middle at UCSB. Killian was the best new setter in the mpsf, not Winder.

Why has winder made and started the YNT the last few years and killian hasnt even made the team? Yes killian is a decent college setter but he will never be at Winder's level. And he wont take USC out of the mpsf cellar by himself we will need a TON of help!!

Chill. Time will tell about Winder v. Killian. Like how it goes next year when there isn't Rooney around to put balls down. Glad to see you don't disagree that Perez should have gotten it.

I could have seen Perez getting it. It did a very nice job for the cougars and put up solid numbers all year.
