Will they really make UCLA and PEPP play in Semi's?? And put the hacks in the other?? That would be amazing if they did!!!

First, I believe it's #1 vs. #4 and #2 vs. #3.
Second, I think it's going to be Long Beach instead of UCLA (although they didn't "help" themselves by getting swept tonight in Malibu).

Not a chance- UCLA 5 losses, LBSU 10 losses. UCLA beat LBSU 2 out of 3 times they played (both were 3 game sweeps)

Hey, I could be wrong (in fact, I often am)...especially since I haven't seen UCLA play, but those are my four and I'm "stickin' with 'em". Ooooh, here's another thought (or question) - does the NCAA Selection Committee consider who is playing well at the end of the season (the way they do with basketball)? If so, I'd think that's another "+" for Long Beach (except for them getting swept tonight). Don't know, just throwing that out there...

You're right; had that been a criteria, Long Beach State definitely would have benefitted. But it's not in the manual. Here's the official 2005 men's volleyball NCAA manual. Page 9 has the rules on the at-large team. www.ncaa.org/library/handbooks/volleyball/2005/2005_nc_m_volleyball_handbook.pdf
I guess with only four teams in the NCAAs to begin with, they wanted to consider the entire season as a whole. When you have to consider 65 teams, there's a lot more factors to figure into the equation in order to (ideally) seed everyone properly. Hence they throw in the RPI, the last 10 games, the conference RPI, etc. It just isn't as necessary when there's only 4 teams selected in the first place, three of which get automatic invites. Really, they only need to select ONE team. Not forty-some.
But that's just my 2 cents on why volleyball doesn't have a "last 10 games" type of factor included.

This tournament looks sad imo...Ohio St. in the final four? Please...Let's just skip the semis and have another MPSF battle for #1. If Pepperdine chokes this year, I will have lost all hope for them.

1. Pepperdine 2. Penn State 3. CSULB 4. Ohio State
Ther is no way that the baby bruins are getting in. I know a lot of you think they are getting in based on their overall record. That is only one criteria and that record is with Gonzalez setting. Which brings me to why they won't get in, area C in the criteria (health of team.) They are no the same team that posted that W/L record. They proved that by losing in the first round to CSUN. No team has ever been given the at-large after exiting the tournament in the first round and it is not going to start this year. The committee wants to put the best teams in and UCLA is not the best team! They have been terrible down the stretch and now they don't have their setter. It is a no brainer for the committee..............Adios westwood winers.

You're really trying hard, rk. The fact is the Bruins are healthier today than last week, all around.
It was Acevedo who set the UCLA smoking of LBS back on 1/27: 30-23, 30-24, 30-26... and it was Acevedo who guided the 2nd demolishing of the 49ers on 2/29: 30-21, 30-21, 30-27. He apparently has a knack for knowing how to beat LBS. It was Gonzales who set in the loss at the Pyramid.
Krashaur has had some sort of virus over the last month, and I'm told he's doing much better now. Johnson had a sprained ankle during the CSN match. That's healed. Klosterman's food poisoning for the LBS match is history. And a guy who didn't play much this year, Gray Garrett is now a force, as well as Prahler who's mid-season sprain that kept him out during the last LBS match and for most of the last month is healed and he's practicing at full strength. So anyone who thinks this team has injury problems is just ill informed. The opposite is the truth.

First of all, look at the dates UCLA beat LBSU, 1/27 and 2/29 buddy, WE ARE IN THE MONTH OF MAY. Long Beach has picked up its play in the past 2 months and its been apparent in beating teams such as hmmmm well lets see... Pepperdine, BYU, Hawaii, and oh wait... UCLA. Second of all, i didn't know klosterman had food poisoning at the Long Beach vs. UCLA match at the pyramid, funny how he was there at the game. Sick but not sick enough to go and watch his team get beat huh?

PSU has the most interest in who is seeded #3. I wonder who they want to have this seed?
