Bottom line is... growing up and playing I knew a lot of guys that were on the FAB 50 list that aren't playing in college any more or are on really bad teams and I knew a lot of guys that were not on the list such as myself that are doing well The same thing happens in football, basketball, soccer, etc....... For players who make the list but dont become phenoms: It is impossible to predict how an 18 year old will respond when asked to play the next level. I have seen top 10 recruited players choose to not even play. Many are talented but burn out or simply are not having fun anymore. In college, it is more of a job than a recreation. For players who don't make the list but excel: Ditto the prediction comment above. Other reasons, lack of exposure, crowded year with high quality candidates, player develops at a later age, player decides to step it up and dedicate to VB, etc....

how do they go about making the fab 50 list? i've seen kids from the fab 50 that weren't very impressive and some really good kids not on the fab 50 so i was just curious Here's a good case in point: In Illinois, two small (6' or under) setters just finished great HS careers as four-year starters for strong programs. Jordan Vidovic was at Brother Rice, which made it to state his junior year. Doug Burchett was at Wheaton-Warrenville South, which won back to back state titles his junior and senior year. They finish at #1 and 2 (with some question on the order) in the state record book for sets. Vidovic is on the Fab Fifty list. Burchett is not. Why? Vidovic pushed for a varsity program - he's going to Lewis. Burchett is going to Illinois for academics, which has a very strong club volleyball program, but it's club. This really highlights the fact that the list is tied to those players that are looking to play varsity, and therefore get their names known by the college coaches.

I totally agree with you on that one. There are some players on the list that i have seen play such as one DAve Swigart from West Aurora who is going to Loyola Chicago. He is a terrible setter i believe and the only reason he is on that list is because he signed with loyola
