For those that follow the club level, who will be the teams to beat this year? The midwest filled up the semi-final bracket last April in KC. Who's back for finalists Marquette and Oshkosh? Oshkosh had some key seniors - did any return this year (grad school or whatever)? Lakeland lost quite a bit and has to rebuild. Illinois returns a lot of talent and seems to have picked up a lot, too. They should be at the top of the Big Ten since graduation hit other top teams. Dayton has good talent back, while Ball State lost a lot.
Who are the teams to beat out west, out east, and down south?

Marquette and Oshkosh should still be good this year....whether that means finalists for either team obviously is way down the road but as for Oshkosh, what I know as one of the seniors from last years team, is that all are returning except our serving specialist and your's truly(Opp)...It appears we will have a very good ball control-type rightside that will be able to fill the opposite shoes fine...so I'd be willing to say that the Titans should vie for a top stop and or championship in many tournaments/conferences including WVC,MW10,MIVA, Las Vegas....and possibly push to the finals again for NIRSA.

I just heard from the Farm...... and Stanford is ready to go with Men's Club team this year. We'll see what they can do at this level.

Illinois returns a lot of talent and seems to have picked up a lot, too. They should be at the top of the Big Ten since graduation hit other top teams. Illinois pickups include several players that were being recruited by Div I team and a bunch of guys from the SPVB program. There should be weekly battles for playing time.

Everyone forgets that Northern Illinois finished in the top 10, and only had one graduating starter. I look at Marquette, Illinois, and Oshkosh as the teams to beat this year.

UW-Whitewater is another midwest team that played some good matches at nationals and didn't lose much at all.

Yeah Dayton tore it up preseason....to bad that meant nothing once everyone else got their teams together for the regular season....and don't count chuck out of the mix for Marquette...everyone I heard in the preseason said Austin wasn't gonna play and that held water like the Packer's secondary.

..and don't count chuck out of the mix for Marquette...everyone I heard in the preseason said Austin wasn't gonna play and that held water like the Packer's secondary. They must be doing a good job of hiding that information this time. Both of them were taken off of the roster listing on their site. Best of luck to them, but good news for the rest of us playing MU though. p.s. I expect Marquette and Oshkosh to be at the top of their games again this year, but I would be disappointed if Illinois doesn't tear it up with the way the stars are aligned for them this year. Similar to MU last year with more firepower. They got a Fab 50 lefty opp., a 6'5 setter, a 6'5 starting middle from Adversity 18-1, and a transfer from Pacific to complement a lineup where 1 of 4 All-Americans graduated. They will be a fun team to watch. Also, I heard that Mike Gawlik, ex-setter for SPRI 18-1, and All-MPSF libero for Pacific, is a grad student Michigan State. I don't know for sure if he's playing yet though.

How is Lakeland looking this year? They get far less attention then the other big 3 teams from last year. They seem to pick up some good talent each year as well.

From what I've heard...LC has been devastated by graduation from last year...I definitely agree w/ LC being overlooked but it's tough when u have those caliber teams all in one conference beating up on each other and the rest of the conference...which was mostly d2 teams. As for returning All Americans you might wanna look back to Oshkosh....if things w/an extra lefty middle work out....they would have 5 out of 7 All-Americans.....should be a good year for NIRSA vball especially in the Midwest By the way....what's up w/ midwest and volleyball? shouldn't that region be dominated by warm climate teams from the south/west?

Dominance by warm climate teams? I believe its called the MPSF...I think midwest club ball ends up being good because there are so few D1 options, Lewis, Loyola, IPFW, Ohio St, thats pretty much it... Whereas on the west coast the D1 caliber players just aren't playing club...

Whatup everyone! Anyone know of a setter or is interested in setting for a very solid mens team for adult nationals . Got a really talented group of players (one being the 2005 NIRSA lebro of the year) that is looking for a setter.
