seriously is their this much contraversy over the NCAA brackets in basketball or in any other sports? it seems like volleyball always has the most out cry on the fairness of the brackets, compared to other sports...

Hmmm, despite Washington being seeded 6, I think it definitely lies in their hands to get to the final 4...they dont have a ton in their way. ..other than having to beat Minnesota on Minnesota's home floor. ... a team they swept at a neutral site earlier in the season before they lost Brook Dieter. But no, it won't be easy playing Minnesota in front of a sellout crowd.

They also beat Florida, but Florida had a bit of a down year (for them). The ACC isn't exactly a power volleyball conference. Giving FSU a 3 and Hawaii a 12 -- just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. No, they lost to Florida. They beat Notre Dame. It was a five-set loss, however - both of their losses were five-setters. Perhaps they were given the benefit of the doubt. Ultimately, however, I think this was a matter of who they were going to send to Minny. They had to put someone at #3, in other words. Couldn't be better for UW, however.

how did Michigan State get in? late season perfornace is a secondary criteria. More like tertiary. MSU did not win one Big Ten road game. They went 5-15, so it's not exactly "late season" but more like the last 2/3rds where they stunk. Meanwhile they beat Illinois, USC and a bunch of scrubs for the first third. So they got in on two wins.

I predict PSU vs. ISU in the final.

But no, it won't be easy playing Minnesota in front of a sellout crowd. Better than going to Omaha and playing Nebraska in front of a crowd in all red. UW having swept Minnesota earlier in the season could help cancel out the home court advantage.

Wow.....Looks like the Omaha region is way more difficult than all the others. Not only the SEC champ LSU but also 4 teams from the Big 12.......NOt fair to the Big 12.....the Pac 10 gets their teams split up and the BIG 12 gets the short end of the stick..

They took the regionalization another step further this year. this isn't a national tournament. agreed ... the omaha regional is basically a pseudo-Big 12 conference tournament...

there is plenty of banter about BCS and selections for all the tournaments, but for other sports that does not take place here on the VB board.

Karch's final prediction: PSU vs. Texas Way to go out on a limb there, Karch... well ... it's not like he would've been able to say PSU - FSU with a straight face ... ;D

how did Michigan State get in? RPI #37 in the country, wins over #5 seed Illinois and USC, .531 season winning percentage.

I am a huge Michigan State fan, but I cannot believe that they made it in. They were tied for last in the Big Ten! Has the last place team from a big conference ever made it in the tourney? Indiana and Northwestern must be kicking themselves for having decent conference seasons and missing the tournament by a win or two.
On the other hand, what other teams were on the bubble that did not give in? Could any of those teams made a case over MSU?
