Where did the Coach go? He had been building that team for years. The school had no intentions of making the position full-time. Coach Wright was there for five years, and did build the program up pretty well. He ended up with a ton of accolades this year (NECVA Coach of the Year being one of them). He also works for another local college full-time, and the workload there got to be too much to maintain a solid program (he's a mid/upper level administrator). He didn't leave the program in a bad place though. The new coach will have 15 returning next season with a couple of newcomers. you said better

Any why is that? b/c Huntington isn't exactly a happening city or b/c of a lack of qualified coaches? or some other reason?

Any why is that? b/c Huntington isn't exactly a happening city or b/c of a lack of qualified coaches? or some other reason? I think it's a combination of: 1. Location - It's in the middle of nowhere! It's a great campus, but that's it, just a campus. This also plays into quality of life for a coach. 2. The DIII Tourney - Juniata has always been able to draw some top quality athletes because of their ability to play a DI schedule because of their affiliation to the EIVA. They have always played on the fact that they play play up. Now that there's a DIII tourney, they need to play a percentage of DIII teams in order to qualify for an at-large selection. No DIII team in their right mind would schedule them (or travel to them) because they are in the middle of nowhere. This leads me to my next point.... 3. Scheduling - Why would a DI/DII opponent then schedule them after the year they just had (9-13 overall). They will struggle to schedule DIII opponents. The program will probably go the route of a Carthage/MSOE/UCSC where they will travel more than they will have home matches. The next coach will be a road runner. 4. Conference alignment - As of next year, there are only two DIII teams in the EIVA (NYU joined a bunch of NECVA teams to compete for an AQ). They need to find a conference, or stay independent, but must play more than half their games against DIII opponents to potentially qualify for an at-large. They also need to be quality opponents. They will be fine for next year, but they will have problems moving forward. What coach would want to take that on? Good luck!!

As for Juniata, not everyone is thinking about the negatives of Huntington. Think family guy, think someone who has nothing left to prove, other than they are a good coach, and its time to settle down and raise a family. Sure, the money for the head coaching job is smaller than some, but Juniata is also a private school, with opportunities to subsidize salaries with other positions within the University that will be more than adequate. I know the top candidate, and if they get him, Juniata would be very, very happy.. and, their program would again be tops in DIII very quickly.

I just know that the new coach will have an uphill battle. I haven't heard of any coaches that have applied for this position. Care to share with us who you think the top candidate is?

It's called either the UVC or the UVA. It becomes a NECVA division this year with schools like New Paltz, Vassar, Stevens, Nazareth, and a couple of others. NYU will become part of the conference in 2012, just in time for the official DIII tourney. Rutgers will also be part of this conference once they graduate their last student-athlete that has received a scholarship.

I did not know NYU was joining with them, should be a pretty solid conference. The kind of athlete's NYU gets should not be effected a ton by this either, as most are looking more on the academic side of things. With Rutgers however, I highly doubt that the New Jersey Division 3 state schools would split up and go into different conferences. This may be an idea which is being thrown around now, but I feel very doubtful to actually happen.

Have I been asleep or ...since when was Pacific's men's Head Coach position open? Jonah really is taking that spot? or an asst spot?
Joe or Jeff Hall went somewhere?
Nothing on the Pacific website so far.

This may be an idea which is being thrown around now, but I feel very doubtful to actually happen. I can see NYU being pretty competitive within the conference. I would say that this new conference will be the most competitive around. After looking at the Rutgers situation more closely, it does seem that if they stay within the NJAC, they are only three schools away from having a AQ for that conference. It will take them three years to get rid of all their scholarship players, and there may be other schools within the NJAC that sponsor MVB. Ramapo, NJCU, and Rutgers-Newark are in the conference. Kean is also planning to start a program, which would give them four. there are six other schools in the NJAC, so you may be right...

mb4life, check an earlier post regarding the 3 different people walking into a bar.. that should be enough info to help you figure it out. Not gonna out anyone if they are not comfortable with it. As for UOP, yes, Jonah did accept the Miami of OH job, but was called and offered the UOP asst position after Jeff Hall accepted to be an asst at UH. Tough call I am sure for him to withdraw after he accepted, but its a professional move, not a personal one. I am sure that the head coach can find a suitable candidate before too long.
