In the Stanford match, there was a kid warming up with the Long Beach team that I haven't seen before... #12. Short libero type, but really cranked his hits. He isn't listed on the website roster... who is he?

Anyone?
I thought it was peculiar to see a new face in the last regular season match. Was I hallucinating again?

maybe you mistakenly saw a 2 next to Cauldwell's 1. He hits pretty hard for being that short. Thats my only guess.
Or did they let Hastert suit up?

Hastert did suit up. He played at St. John Bosco and LBCC.

You'll have to wait for mom to answer that one. (I'm sure it's not rocket science. )

Has he been practicing all year? Are there other players that are only practice players that could be added at match time? I didn't say it was complicated - just want to have a little info so that I'm more informed. sheesh

Jake Hastert is a senior and has been on the practice team for a few years. There are only 15 listed on the roster on the website, but they submit an official roster of 18 to the NCAA, so it is possible that he is on that list. I was hoping that he would get to play at least a little.

Thanks for the info. I knew I hadn't seen him at the matches I've gone to this year. Too bad he didn't get in during the Stanford match since it was a blowout. But I'm guessing that was because it doesn't help them get ready for playoffs - or something like that. Nice picture, Beachy. It does show that he can elevate. I noticed him because he was hitting hard balls at the ten foot, and he was the shortest hitter. Another thing I noticed is that other players are starting to simulate May's little game of trying to hit the upper deck while hitting. I find that to be entertaining.
