Granquist is averaging that with the 3 she collected as a DS, too.

Unofficially, Wittman 12-3-28 with 11 digs. Love 13-5-37. Dixon with 6 blocks, Harms with 5, Filho with 4. Granquist ended up with 19 digs, Nucci with 32 assists.
Not much offensively for Duke, other than Gray's 7-1-12.

Nice job by MN. A little concerned about this without Gibby but it sounds like they played very well.
It would appear that Nucci will win the setting job. I would think they will use her all three matches next weekend. They need to get a set line-up heading into the B10 season.

Just saw the box score. Looks like Menden was the DS for all 3 sets and Sooter didn't get in. Interesting. Looks like Harms had a nice match, too. 4-0-9 with 5 block assists. They are going to need that kind of production for her to help take the pressure of the OH's. Sorry, don't know how to input the stats in a readable order. Minnesota looked very good. Their leftside tandem of Love and Wittman is one of the best in the country. It's scary to think that the duo will be around for 3 years. Love was hitting much harder than I remember her doing from last year's Final Four and Tampa Twice tournament. She also looked much better hitting out of system. After watching the PSU-Florida match, I thought McClendon might be the best freshman this year, but watching Wittman tonight has made me change my mind. She is so solid all-around. Duke was swinging very hard, but the Minnesota defense led by Granquist was digging up everything. I hope they get Gibby back soon. I was sad that I couldn't see her play this weekend. She had her whole lower arm taped up, from her wrist to her elbow. Dixon didn't get a long of swings, but she can really crush that ball.

Setterdump, thanks for the observations. Us gopher fans have been singing the praises of Wittman since she arrived. It's nice to hear that other people are seeing the same thing.

A small correction: US Gopher fans have been singing AW's praise since before she arrived!

A small correction: US Gopher fans have been singing AW's praise since before she arrived! Very true. I do remember seeing her in high school and turning to my friend and saying that I'd take her over Roehrig right now. With her and Love, this is the best OH duo we've had in a LONG time.

Wittman can absolutely crush the volleyball when she goes up to attack. Her approach to hitting is very effective. She takes whatever the block gives her and detonates the ball. Wittman does not try to force anything, she would rather overpower you. One point in the match, with Duke on a rally, she took an outside set and crushed it down the line beside the Duke blockers and the antennae. The ball hit right under the Duke setter. The defense had no time to react, and that was the way most of her kills went. She is so strong with the ball. Love is also a great player, had some stupid errors out of the pipe. However, her defense was extraordinary.

Love makes up for her relative lack of quickness (compared to your usual DS) with her long, long reach. She can cover a lot of ground.
