During the year, many people were doubting the bruins, and for good reason.
I had made the statement that they would make playoffs, and they would win at least the first round.
That play in game really helps, you are already one game into playoffs.

It was a very deserved win for the Bruins. I feel that Al Scates really meant business and they showed it. Hawaii just kept talking about Scates deciding not to golf. Heck, I'd go out to the links first thing in the morning after that match!

He's wearing the same shirt, pants and one of two ties he rotates, for the last 10 wins in the winning string. I wonder if he wore a lei. Now that's great coaching!! LOL.

starbulletin.com/breaking/breaking.php?id=4397Hawaii loses to UCLA 18-30, 30-28, 30-22, 30-24 Tournament hopes now rest on UC Irvine Star-Bulletin Staff citydesk@starbulletin.com UCLA used a balanced attack stunning the University of Hawaii Warriors 18-30, 30-28, 30-22, 30-24 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation quarterfinal at the Stan Sheriff Center. A crowd of 5,966 saw Steve Klosterman and Nick Scheftic each put down 14 kills to lead the Bruins (22-12) to their 10th victory and into Thursday’s semifinal against Pepperdine at Irvine, Calif. Hawaii (23-5), seeing its 19-match winning streak fizzle into the Manoa mist, will be rooting for top-ranked UC Irvine to win it, leaving hope that the selection committee will give the Warriors the at-large berth. “You hate to be in a situation where you can’t prove it on the court,” Hawaii coach Mike Wilton said. “But the argument is we proved it on the court all year long. Just picked one heck of a time to play horrible. “Tonight had nothing to do with UCLA. We imploded and couldn’t put anything together. But I don’t think it’s over if Irvine wins.”

Why does Matt Wade still getting the start? Dennis is clearly a better setter with more experience and they keep losing game 1, now against SB and Hawaii. You can't keep starting down one game, it will catch up to you. Go with the Senior. Go Bruins!

Funny, I saw Matt's dad at the Long Beach State game last night. His alma mater, still wish that Matty went to the Beach though. Great kid and great setter and will be the next great one in about a year or two.

starbulletin.com/2006/04/23/sports/simpson.htmlThe other shoe drops on Hawaii’s season IT was so crazy, Mike Wilton lost a shoe. Don't ask me how it happened. My eyes aren't quite that quick. All we know for sure is that it happened, last night. After one particularly controversial play, there it was. A brown loafer, out in the middle of the court. Hawaii called timeout. Its coach strolled out and slipped back into his footwear before addressing his team. "Soon," someone was saying, "there will be the 'Sit down, Al' cheer." (Up in the stands, there was a sign that read the same.) Yes, you knew it would be this way. You knew it, at last night's MPSF men's volleyball playoff, UH, UCLA. Al Scates and the Bruins had won nine in a row to get here. Hawaii came in red-hot, 19 straight. And it was Hawaii-UCLA. You knew what kind of match it would be. This was how it began. You knew the winners would celebrate, the way UCLA did, last night, Steve Klosterman circling the court, all the Bruins jumping up and down in a circle, having stolen it in four. You knew the losing team would feel as if kicked in the gut, as Hawaii did. It ended on a ball gone long, way long. The place was stunned quiet, no one could quite believe it. In between, it got so crazy you could lose a shoe. Lauri Hakala spiked one fully splayed out, arms and legs scattered in every direction. Like he hit it so hard he did the splits. He nailed UCLA's libero in the face. It made a dull, thudding sound, like a volleyball hitting someone in the face. Riley Wallace ate ice cream. Dave Shoji pounded the table in front of him to a LET'S GO 'BOWS beat. Linda Lingle's bodyguards elbowed each other. An auntie in the front row put down her knitting long enough to do the "raise the roof." UCLA's Paul George went after an errant ball and leapt onto the media table. Wilton lost a shoe. Hawaii won a 15-minute rally in Game 4 with a Mauli'a La Barre block. Game 4. That's when it ended. That's when it was craziest. Tied 19-19. Then 23s. And 24. And then it was over. Aloha Ball got away before anyone knew what had happened. And then it sunk in. There is a chance they're not done. Maybe. UH had won 19 straight, even got a vote for No. 1, this week. But a loss in the first round ... Hawaii had rolled in Game 1, a beating. Hawaii was using UCLA like a punching bag. It was like Rocky hitting raw, frozen meat. But the rest of the match went the way we knew it would. Closely. Crazily. It ended achingly. La Barre was bent over on the court. Hands on his knees. He shook his head. It was Hawaii-UCLA. I remember not that long ago I mention on another thread that UCLA, better yet-AL Scates, would have the Bruins ready for the playoffs. Some of you scoffed at the idea. Those doing it were mostly Scates haters. Now he has them in a position to maybe get his, would it be, 19th or 20th MEn's Championship. I'm not saying that they are going to win it, so all you UCI fans don't get your heads in a tizzy. Remember great coaches always find ways to have their teams prepared for GREATNESS. Some day I hope to be able to say that.

I'm sure they are sick enough as it is w/o you rubbing it in their face.

You are the last person who should be giving advice. Your team won and now has a better chance to get into the FF. You are loving it. That doesn't mean you need to piss people off.
