Everyone knows he FLIES, but he hasnt been tearing it up this year. I know he was hurt last year (ACL), but with people still thinking highly of him, does he still have a shot at Athens if he's not making headlines this year?

True he hasn't been tearing it up this year ... so far! But the last three matches he's had 27 k /.426 hp, 22 k/.515 hp and 43 k/.603 hp. I don't know if he'll be in Athens or not but he's got smack !

I haven't had the pleasure of seeing Jeff Ptak in person, so I can't comment whether he would be Athens-bound or not...I was just wondering how he would fare against some of our stronger MPSF teams? I don't mean pre-season, but right now. In any event, is he POY material? I'd like to see more matchups with the MIVA & EIVA more often. I wish we had a special volleyball channel to tune into matches all over the nation. I've enjoyed watching your teams when they make the trip out West. I'd like to hear from more East/MidWest fans (besides Squirrel Boy!)

He isn't having his best year but to his defense the setting at IPFW has been really inconsistent. Dennis Santiago who won FOY in the MIVA last year has really struggled and even lost his starting position for a couple of matches. As far as Ptak and POY, I would have to say no way. I don't think he'll even win POY in the MIVA. He still has the HOPS though. I think he has the tools to be in Athens for sure. It's a big matter of being more consistent. He has good heat on the outside, average blocker, inconsisent but deadly serve. When brings his heavy heat from the service line, he is up there with the best in the country.

Jeffrey has the mentality, experience and frame to be there in Athens. He has become a much smarter player and as evidenced of his play of late he is beginning to turn it on when it counts. IPFW has the x-factor that no one in the MIVA or Country ..... no lets leave it at MIVA has right now. In order for them to win he will have to be set 1/3 of the balls period. He is smart enough to allow his body to handle it. Only Costas has close the elements that Jeffrey has in his bag. Topple is too mechanical, Keenan is in the wrong position to have that kind of impact...and Rooney simply cannot do what this kid does. Everone knows he is getting he ball and yet he doesn't hit below .300.
Let's face it Jeffrey is a Freak of nature. thank od he will be wearing a USA uni. A quality kid from New York ...I think the Pace or Eden program whose has matured more in one year that I have ever seen. he has his head on straight
He is catching his groove at the right time and the IPFW team will just hop on board. This will make things very interesting.

This will make things very interesting. I agree with most of this but I'm not sure Jeff will be able to carry the team. There have been pretty important matches that he hasn't come through like I think he should have. IPFW had some big expectations for this year and they just haven't been able to live up to those expectations. One change that IPFW has done that I think has been a key to Ptak's and IPFW's play has been the move of Angel Ruiz from MB to OH. The "other" Angel, Ruiz-Rivera that is, hasn't really panned out as the missing player IPFW needed to really compete. He was a passing liablility and doesn't hit well enough to warrant keeping him on the court. By putting Ruiz on the outside it gives IPFW three hitting options even when passing is bad, in Ptak, Ruiz, and Matt Zbyszewski. Zbyszewski has been the stud on IPFW almost all year. (look at his stats) As far as going to the Final 4? I can't see them beating Lewis in the MIVA tournament. Lewis just has too many weapons and better setting.

Ptak absolutely flies!!! I have seen other teams take pics of him in warmups so they can show their friends, or maybe to see if its really true. He is a much better player now than two years ago, but still very inconsistent passer and I have seen teams run their offense at his block instead of attacking 6'3 Santiago. That says something to me. He absolutely jumps, but his body will not handle the training at USA National Team.

He will fill in the 02 position perfectly where passing is not a pre-requisite. That is why we have Sullivan or whoever will be Libero.
Ptak is a veteran who will bring when he needs it. Obviously the setters are feeding him more which is exactly what he has been used to in HS, Club and in past years like his other "freak" friend Soto used to have. (Also FYI Jeff is a product of the Eden VBC)
If you have a cannon....fire it!
when it comes time for playoffs I'm sure we have all learned that the past season is meaningless. With rally scoring if the IPFW team can keep it close as they enter the high 20's I will go with the gun every time. Lewis SHOULD Win! BUT .......

i'm sorry, but if you can record 43 kills with only 5 errors over a very good loyola team (i saw them play hawaii), you must be pretty good.
never seen the kid, never seen IPFW play, but he sounds pretty awesome.
and can someone explain to me how Indiana-Purdue works? aren't they two separate universities? like in the baskeball tourney, there was Indiana, Purdue, and IUPUI? and there's also IPFW? i never understood it, so maybe roofan could explain it to me.

This is the way I understand it... IPFW and IUPUI would be UH's equivalent to UH-Hilo. Same school only at a different place with the exception being instead of just UH running the school, Purdue and IU run it together. Make sense?

I like Jeff Ptak. As Chris Seifert said one time "he's a good VB player' If his ACL keeps him getting heigth then his 6'5" staure may be a limitaion for the national team.
