I haven’t been here for a few weeks so this might be old news. I heard Stanford is recruiting 2022 Marianna Singletary (MB 6’5”) out of South Carolina. I hear Xu is 100% and has been for some time. Awhile back there was crazy talk about Miner graduating a year early and playing in 2020. As it turns out from what I hear Xu was 100% before the first day of training camp would have taken place. She could always get injured again but right now she is the starting quarterback. Olson had heart surgery last year. Don't know if that set back her prep rankings. Stanfordvb said all along Keefe was not interested in Stanford. I'm going to start believing him about recruits. Singletary is more like 6'4", but that's not a big deal because she has long arms and a BIG vertical. I don't see anything wrong with her hitting (given her age). I haven't seen any video of her blocking, but she looks quick. I'm sure she'll come into college a little raw wrt that skill, but that's typical. |

Singletary looks impressive, quick and a terrific jump for her age. Her opponents all look like smurfs, so it's hard to judge her effectiveness. I suspect coaches have taught her to move in blocking while keeping her long arms as high as possible. That probably works great against short hitters. Her footwork is terrible. I want her!

I do not know if this was mentioned here (don't remember any post): All three disciplines of SU volleyball...women's, sand and men's...were awarded the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award;
programs win this recognition by maintaining a cumulative 3.3 GPA on a 4.0 scale; 4.1 per 5.0 scale.
The Women's team compiled a 3.841 GPA; Sand a 3.760; Men's 3.574. Congrats to all three teams!

It seems if Stanford were interested in recruiting her they have probably been communicating with her since June 15th? The road to Stanford is (understandably) incredibly difficult - a PSA can't just have the athletic talent, skills and size to be a targeted recruit. They also have to have a near perfect if not perfect GPA with multiple AP's etc. and excellent test scores - and Stanford has to have a scholarship to give in a particular position. As people have seen even as recently as Sami Francis and Kami Miner the PSA can't declare (aka announce on social media) that she has been offered a scholarship until the admissions office approves the application, well into the PSA Junior Year (sometimes summer before Senior Year). As we get further into the '22 Junior Year, it will become clear who Stanford is interested in as the rest of the elite players commit to great schools, and select PSA(s) remain uncommitted. |
