Looking at fall 2021, will 6’4” Cameron Brink play for the volleyball team? You know Tara isn't letting that happen.

WVB Schedule isn't updated yet. Will we have our first match this weekend for sure? Will it be on TV? Can anyone confirm?

I have asked several girls from the USC team if their first game is on Friday they have said yes and about the games being televised they said they don’t know. I heard USC/Stanford was canceled and that SC will scrimmage LMU instead. My understanding from credible sources is that it was either canceled or postponed. Based on the foregoing, the series was not even included in the recently posted PTW Contest [sob!]. Let's hope for a safe Pac 12 re-opening. Now that Cardinal players have finally started practicing [outdoors only], perhaps they will be in Pac 12 competition soon.

Or perhaps Stanford WVB has decided to cancel the spring season because it became clear too many obstacles to overcome.

Will we have our first match this weekend for sure? Very unlikely.

Looking at fall 2021, will 6’4” Cameron Brink play for the volleyball team? Is Hambly recruiting 6’5” Maggie Mendelson (2023 OH converted from MB)? Currently ranked #2 in her class by prepvolleyball. It’s my understanding that Brink played VB in HS but “her sport” has always been basketball. and idk about Mendelson’s recruiting situation, but she is also ranked 21 in her class for basketball by ESPN.

I saw some footage of Brink in highschool. She was definitely a basketball player playing volleyball.

gostanford.com/news/2021/1/19/womens-volleyball-pac-12-announces-spring-schedule.aspxIn light of the Santa Clara County Public Health Department's current emergency directive, Stanford's first four matches (at USC on Jan. 23 & 25 and home versus Colorado on Jan. 30 & Feb. 1) have been canceled.
Additionally, individuals are required to quarantine for 10 days upon entering or returning from travel of over 150 miles from Santa Clara County's borders. As a result, the women's volleyball program initially plans to conduct modified outdoor training activities that comply with the current restrictions.
As of two days ago Stanford had not secured an indoor facility outside of Santa Clara County. Without a suitable gym outside SCC, there will be no season. According to SCC Covid restrictions a team must quarantine for 10 days if it travels to an opponent's venue and returns back to Stanford (other than Cal which is close enough that the quarantine doesn't apply). Therefore without a remote facility including practice gym and living arrangements, there will be no season. I remain hopeful to the last minute but time is running out.

That's not what Hambly is saying - in the Volleyball Mag article. If they can practice outside for a few weeks, and then allowed to practice indoors at Stanford, he's hoping at least they get 10 matches in, even if they miss the first 12 matches. Utah matches are March 5 and 7 - if they played matches starting March 5, and none of them are cancelled, they would get 10 matches in.

There's a person in a FB volleyball group, who says they are hearing this from sources close to the program:
"I’ve heard it’s very likely their season gets canceled all together due to county restrictions. They haven’t had a real practice in god knows how long"
"The pac is considering dropping them for this season as it’ll be almost impossible for them to play."
Anyone close to the Stanford program, who can say this is being discussed? Or if this is ridiculous, especially the Pac 12 not letting them play, if they can only play 10 matches?

Yes there have been conversations between Stanford and the Pac but your FB friend has it backwards. The rest of the schools and the Pac have been trying to find a way to help Stanford to compete - even if it is only for 10 matches in order to get an At Large for the tournament. Kevin and all the players have been working hard. But Santa Clara County is the most restrictive county in the nation and Stanford has made it clear since the start of the pandemic that there are more important things than sports (I happen to agree with that). No one is "not letting Stanford play". Everyone wants Stanford to play. There is no conspiracy here. But there is no easy solution.
