She is just not an opposite. You can tell right away how much more comfortable she is on the left. Sarah Hickman can't come sooner... I'm really hoping for Harvey to improve..that will take so much pressure out of Rubin and Kurt. do you think blyashov would take her oppo spot if bly heals up in time?

Legit question I did NOT think I would be asking, but is Kurt a legit possibilty for NFOY? She has come up huge for the Card recently and seems to improve almost every match Next season's OH scenario will be super interesting: Stanford returns both Rubin + Kurt plus Blyashov. We add Demaria into the mix. If Kurt continues to improve, looks like we will be seeing two top 10 OHs in their classes on the bench (Blyashov and Demaria). Unless Hambly makes a bold move and puts Kurt in the Opp and put Blyashov as the other OH (Demaria most likely will redshirt). This is fun! I'm usually not a 6-2 proponent but I honestly think it should be considered next season. How else can you keep Yu and Parks happy for the next 3 years? Both deserve to play. I'm a big Parks fan obviously and realize she is undersized but her athleticism makes up for it and I think she has Lisa Sharpley potential as a S/RS. It's a luxury to finally have some depth next year.

Pleasantly surprised that this team swept SMU. I love the progression of Kurt, she has become a mature player in a span of half a season. I don't think she's getting any awards this season but she has given such a nice balance on the other OH spot opposite Rubin. But the thing that stood out to me in this match is how dependable and improved our middles were. They were all over both in defense and offense. Sami Francis is slowly becoming a dominant middle. Hope our serving picks up. 22 service errors won't help vs Pitt. Kurt trained and played with Fenerbahce, redshirted, has stronger than normal academic credentials versus most other Stanford athletes, and I believe she's at least 20 years old. She's more mature than your typical US born and raised freshman. Kurt will turn 21 in November (11/10/23 birthdate). For perspective, she's 4 months older than Rubin but two years below NCAA eligibility wise.

Like can a freshman be 23 and start? or is there certain criteria? I know that one football player is looking for an EIGTH year which is utterly insane

Loving this teams fire and grit. Just watched the replay, my biggest takeaway is that our middles are improving. 1% better everyday is still getting better everyday. Harvey has so much potential but from the outside she looks to be in her head. She's just got to relax a little, she's not the tallest but she's so physical. Quick tempo is her comfort zone, but OOS she needs to make better high percentage choices and stop running under the balll. No doubt Harvey is one of the most athletic players we've had at Stanford. As a hitter eventually she might eventually become pretty good on the right as she learns how to keep the ball in front of her, hits less vertically, and learns how to finesse against well formed blocks. I'm less hopeful on blocking due her height and current abilities. I think we need someone who is 6'4"+ in that position who has better natural blocking skills. Hickman probably fills that role nicely, but she's coming in 2026. Maybe Blyashov, Demaria, or Kurt could play OPP in 2025. Harvey really looks dynamic on the left with an in tempo set against a solo blocker (iso). This is when she has been able to terminate with extreme prejudice. Extreme prejudice means vertical hitting into the doughnut. But she'll need to learn how to score OOS against a well formed double block like Rubin; otherwise I don't think she'll end up as a LS starter.

Also pleasantly surprised by the win last night. Hoping they can be more competitive on the road against Pitt than they were against Nebraska or Louisville. Regardless, want to give Hambly some credit. Given who he had to replace from last year's team, as well as Blyashov's inability to play so far this year, this team is better than I thought they would be. If they finish with only a few more losses, he should get some consideration for coach of the year.

We have to give the girls and the coaching staff credit. We have managed to stay a top 10 team even with 0 transfers. That’s quite impressive during this era of volleyball.

You do have a transfer lol. granted they are not playing but you do have one But I agree to an extent. yes its great that Stanford is maintaining this without transfers, but its also Stanford. If a kid wants go there, and has the grades, its very rare for them to turn down stanford. They usually get the kids they want/who want them etc. And they are still getting top recruits

Not being able to use the portal the way others can definitely hurts Stanford imo. I don’t think there would’ve been a better team in the ncaa than Stanford last year if the portal / covid transfers hadn’t become so prominent. You could make a good argument for the 2022 team as well

Cultivating should always be priority.

Oglivie really needs to work on her setting. You’re from Hawaii, you have the magic Hawaii setting hands. Use them😭
