Oglivie really needs to work on her setting. You’re from Hawaii, you have the magic Hawaii setting hands. Use them😭 Especially rn with the no double contact rule

I was driven nuts by SMU’s failure to attack on serve. It saved the Cardinal, but the Ponies handed the match to the Card by serving cookies, serving directly to Ogilvie, or, worst of all, serving cookies directly to Ogilvie. They had similar issues in transition for which I tentatively pointed at their digging libero not giving their setter enough to work with.
Even an eighth grade WVB team should not be serving cookies to the other team’s best passer… and these gals have some serious talent. If SMU had served well and Stanford didn’t up its game, the Card would have been swept.

I was wondering the same thing. Her vids show promise. But she'll be up against stiff competition in 2025 and 2026. I see her redshirtting her frosh year, tho.

Legit question I did NOT think I would be asking, but is Kurt a legit possibilty for NFOY? She has come up huge for the Card recently and seems to improve almost every match Next season's OH scenario will be super interesting: Stanford returns both Rubin + Kurt plus Blyashov. We add Demaria into the mix. If Kurt continues to improve, looks like we will be seeing two top 10 OHs in their classes on the bench (Blyashov and Demaria). Unless Hambly makes a bold move and puts Kurt in the Opp and put Blyashov as the other OH (Demaria most likely will redshirt). This is fun!
If he makes Kurt the Opp, where does that leave Harvey?
Also, Stanford needs someone who can block at the Opp. I'm not certain Kurt or Harvey are dominant enough on the right.
Stanford needs height.
Does anyone see Blyashov, Demaria, Duncan, or Dunkle as an Opp?
Anything is possible.

It'd be logical to run 6-2 next season, considering there won't be a solid MB to hit slide and 2 good but not great setters with smillar level pins.
About this season, I really don't understand the rotation where Stanford hides a DS from reception line, when she is on rotation 5. After side out, Ipar comes in to replace in front row. I know that Ipar from pipe is not a great option but at least it's an option...Considering Stanford DS' are not second coming of Hentz in defence...

Both on serve receive and defense, they just looked slow and often in the wrong place. Kinda confused how they could not just beat but sweep both Nebby and Pitt

We'll see if the recruiting continues… Stanford missed on 3 players who were offered full ride scholarships for the 2026 class lol. Not being able to use the portal the way others can definitely hurts Stanford imo. I don’t think there would’ve been a better team in the ncaa than Stanford last year if the portal / covid transfers hadn’t become so prominent. You could make a good argument for the 2022 team as well who were the 3 we missed on? Taylor Harvey (Texas), Abigail Mullen (usc), and Kristen Simon (Wisconsin). All took visits and were top priorities for Stanford and none committed. Simon was recruited with the intention to immediately replace oglivie and instead took a 3 year scholarship from Wisconsin, where she could likely end up as a Ds for 3 years waiting behind schumaker

I think this statement is not only negative but also quite unfair for both players.

Legit question I did NOT think I would be asking, but is Kurt a legit possibilty for NFOY? She has come up huge for the Card recently and seems to improve almost every match This reminds me of Foluke Akinradewo's freshman year. She was such a stud athletically that she played immediately, but we were always reminded that she was still learning the game. She just wasn't polished enough to win first-team A-A that year, but she was a presence right from the beginning. Ironically, her senior year was worse than her junior year... she wasn't getting set nearly as well after Bryn Kehoe graduated, and she really hated playing in a 6-2, as it made it very difficult to make slide attacks. Someone on the staff commented off-hand that it was possible, but I'm thinking it was beyond what to expect from a college squad... even a Stanford one. That brings me to one of the greater enigmas of Stanford volleyball during my time as a season ticket holder: setter Joanna Evans. She played wonderfully in practice.. Coach Dunning requires that, and it earned her regular playing time despite her in-match struggles... and she had some fantastic matches.... but sometimes she would suddenly lose it and start playing horribly. She was so bad against the Huskies at Maples that Stanford abandoned the 6-2 after the second set... only playing it against the worst teams left on their schedule... and she was very deep and very far on the end of the bench her senior season. She was last to be brought in on Senior Night... even behind Seabass (Katherine Sebastian), a walk-on... because Coach Dunning would not let her play for one second in the front row. I was at her table at the VB banquet one year... I think it was her senior season... and she was totally inscrutable. I never felt I knew anything at all about her.

I really enjoyed watching Yu, Parks is highly praised. So, it makes sense to use both setters while having depth on the pins. What I meant but "good but not great" is generational talent. I'd call Bugg&Gray as good and Miner as great. Sometimes I forget that how Americans love to call everything "amazing".
