You do have a transfer lol. granted they are not playing but you do have one But I agree to an extent. yes its great that Stanford is maintaining this without transfers, but its also Stanford. If a kid wants go there, and has the grades, its very rare for them to turn down stanford. They usually get the kids they want/who want them etc. And they are still getting top recruits I thought for their grad transfers like madeline gates and charity, they got accepted with no promises of volleyball at all, and only once they get in, they can reach out to kevin. That's how it went for Gates, but I don't believe it's the norm. Maybe there isn't a "norm" since so-called grad transfers are so rare for Stanford. Things must be rather different for them than for freshmen or undergrad transfers, because admission to grad school depends on the grad program you are trying to get into. You wouldn't get any brownie points from a typical grad department for being an athlete.

Post Pitt game thoughts:
Rubin has been struggling a lot this season vs a well formed blocked. A lot of that has to do with opponents knowing she’s our main hitting weapon.
Middles vs Pitt were MIA. Francis couldn’t buy a kill in front of the setter to save her life. Her and Miner had some bad connections.
Harvey out of the back looks promising. She had some nice kills on the left also. If Harvey could pass as good or nearly as good as Rubin she would be starting over her.
Blyashov was dressed today for the first time in a long time. What is going on??
Pringle had a good match. Her passing was so solid. I noticed Cawa was struggling a little and she got subbed out for Beaven. I feel like Hambly should keep her in and let her struggle as she is still an upside from Beaven, even on a bad day.

Last year Rubin had Kipp in front row with her for 2 rotations to hold the middle so more seam opportunities. If Harvey continues to come on strong would help Rubin as again holds the middle. Baird also typically hit more rotations against the opposite, where this year Rubin facing more opposites (generally block better than setter). She’s smart, good hitter & will figure it out.
Didn’t Beaven come in to serve for Sami when started keeping Harvey in for 6 rotations? Allowed Harvey to play right back, which Yu did when serves & puts Beaven left back.

Rubin is a great competitor, but can't carry the offense. She's just not that player.

would there ever be such a rotation that harvey is playing outside but rubin or another ds passes for her?
in that case, maybe rubin should've stayed a DS due to her hitting errors, Harvey at Outside, and Ipar at right side

On the plus side, our passing looks a lot better than a month ago #babysteps

Oh, and what the hell keeps Blyashov out for more than half the season?! agreed! I saw her warmup a week ago and she didn't look too good on serve receive Is she getting a medical redshirt or a regular redshirt

Agree with the earlier comment about leaving Kawa in. She did sit out in one of the matches a week or two ago so that would make sense

Oh, and what the hell keeps Blyashov out for more than half the season?! Rumor is that Blyashov would be ready to go in late October. Looks like she was dressed to play versus Pitt but not SMU. Possibly she was actually cleared to play against Pitt but Hambly held her out due to her lack of play. Next two matches are against a weak Cal squad, so I don't see why Hambly wouldn't give her some playing time unless the decision has been made to redshirt her.

Yeah, you pretty much nailed it. Rubin was hitting against Babcock and Kelly in most rotations. These are not your ordinary blockers. Last year, Baird probably would have drawn them and Rubin would have hit against Fairbanks and Jones. Another thing: We have short pin hitters relative to some recent Stanford teams. Big physical teams can give us problems in two ways -- blocking and attacking. You saw plenty of evidence yesterday where Pitt soft blocked us silly, controlled the ball, and then Babcock and Stafford terminated. I didn't see the Volleymetric stats but I think Stanford won the pass/serve game against Pitt, but Pitt's size and lethality won the day.
