Last year Rubin had Kipp in front row with her for 2 rotations to hold the middle so more seam opportunities. If Harvey continues to come on strong would help Rubin as again holds the middle. Baird also typically hit more rotations against the opposite, where this year Rubin facing more opposites (generally block better than setter). She’s smart, good hitter & will figure it out. Didn’t Beaven come in to serve for Sami when started keeping Harvey in for 6 rotations? Allowed Harvey to play right back, which Yu did when serves & puts Beaven left back. Yeah, you pretty much nailed it. Rubin was hitting against Babcock and Kelly in most rotations. These are not your ordinary blockers. Last year, Baird probably would have drawn them and Rubin would have hit against Fairbanks and Jones. Another thing: We have short pin hitters relative to some recent Stanford teams. Big physical teams can give us problems in two ways -- blocking and attacking. You saw plenty of evidence yesterday where Pitt soft blocked us silly, controlled the ball, and then Babcock and Stafford terminated. I didn't see the Volleymetric stats but I think Stanford won the pass/serve game against Pitt, but Pitt's size and lethality won the day.
I miss McClure. I think she was a smarter hitter than Rubin.

Rubin is a great competitor, but can't carry the offense. She's just not that player.
I agree. Rubin is a fierce competitor.
Next year, I fear, things won't be much better. I'm looking forward to 2026. Anticipating the arrival of Sarah Hickman and Ella Andrews.

I really thought Harvey would be more Kipp-like. Not that she's bad or anything. I just thought she'd be more terminal.

It is easy to be a smart hitter when the block is focused on Plummer, Fitz, Campbell, etc. Rubin is a much better hitter and volleyball player than McClure. But she is not a player who is meant to be the primary offensive option...

It can’t be about next year, or the year after. Too many highly regarded recruits never meet expectations…or retire. Being in the top 5 year in and year out is a big deal. Winning a NC is nearly impossible, luck is involved.

McClure never had to carry her team. Rubin, OTOH, is going above and beyond her more natural role on the OH (hitting wise) and carrying her team.

will the 2025 team be looking to make waves like the plummer hentz era or will it be a year of rebuilding?

Good question. imho, I would say something shy of rebuilding. They lose 2 great athletes in Miner and Oglivie. But, they still won't have a legitimate go-to hitter who can carry a load like a Plummer.

plummer is arguably the best NCAA player of all time so I feel like we should be aiming a little lower a la Kipp

I think Harvey has great potential on the left.

I think Harvey has great potential on the left. me too but it's her passing / backrow defense that is probably holding her back

I agree. Harvey needs to work on her passing and floor defense. I wonder if Demaria or Queen have a chance against Harvey, for court time next year.
Also, I noticed during the Pitt match, when Harvey was on the left, she pretty much never covered the floor on defense. So when Kurt got the set or was up blocking with her middle - on the rightside, Harvey was standing straight up at the left front just watching the action. Not covering the floor. I'm not sure what's going on there. It's as if she's waiting or getting ready to hit, instead.
