I was watching a replay of Stanford vs Hawaii match back in 2012.. Hayley Spelman was the starting opposite of that Stanford team. 6'6 lefty. With Inky, Burgess, Howard and Bugg. IIRC Spelman was the #3 ranked recruit coming out of high school. She didn't really live up to the potential but went on to have a successful pro career abroad. I hope Sarah Hickman will have a better collegiate career than Spelman - both 6'6 and lefty. Spelman was very raw coming in (from Nevada) and it took her awhile to grow into her body. What I remember most: Spelman was a very poor blocker for her size. She had some good matches as an attacker later in her career @ Stanford. Hickman's blocking technique appears to be much better based upon video I've watched and I think she'll be a better attacker too. I'm clueless on her ball handling/foor D skills, but that's not a main emphasis for OPPos.

Those rankings are so wild to me because they always prefaced them by saying they were based on the "potential" of the player rather than where that player skill was at the time of the ranking... and you'll see some years the number 1 recruit or X recruit is very polished and the best player or so and other years, that said player is hardly struggles to find the floor at the D1 level. You can find one or two in the top 10 every year.

Anyway, in ACC conference-only stats, Kurt is now hitting .344, good enough for 10th best league-wide.

Speaking of ACC conference-only stats, Stanford is 1st in HP at 0.326 (barely above Pitt who is at 0.317), 1st in A/S at 13.09 and 1st in K/S at 14.04. They have picked up their blocking in conference-only play and are 4th at 2.72!

You all….I’m scared of how bad we will be next year without Miner and Oglivie. I think 2026 and 2027 is when we will be able to compete with top teams again.
