Recruiting is the ticket to success. Minny is not USC or Hawaii with a built in recruiting sun climate. We will need a proven track record to recruit like Mike was able to. A CHEAP coach from a lesser program and we get slaughtered. The Gopher program is BIG time and should be respected as so. I am sure we could hire so and so from some junior college in Missouri or Nebraska and the suffer the results. I am afraid that will be the track they take. be afraid. My money is on either Christy or Geoff.

There hasn't been any talk of Brady Starkey for quite some time. Why?

simply, touche. You are right.
Bill, Minnesota is a big time program because Mike made it so. There is absolutely no reason to expect it to stay there if the right person is not hired. Steph had a nice program, too, and she was a good coach, but we were never one of the country's best before Mike.

Exactly what I was implying R.
I was there at the beginning of Mikes run.
400 people in the gym..and players who couldn't serve over the net.
Take Mike away without a Big time coach and we get..North Dakota?

The VB program will not become North Dakota's. But it could easily slip back to mid-Big10 range.

The VB program will not become North Dakota's. But it could easily slip back to mid-Big10 range. Or, could climb to new heights. Again, the components are in place for the program to continue to do well - solid fan base, solid junior programs, and a supportive administration. If Mike had been here and the program experienced success for a couple of years, I could be led to believe the program could slip back. However, Mike has done the work and laid the foundation for the program to continue to succeed. One of Mike's theories on an elite team is that there is a "plateau" period where a player or team tends to level out before going to the next level. I feel the MN program hit a plateau in the mid-2000s and the last two years have seen the program start to take that leap to the next level. I hope the players will see this and choose to be a part of taking the program to the next level. The pieces are in place and just need the coach to lead them there. And I, for one, believe the administation will make the right choice.

I agree. When you look at the talent we have and with the frosh coming in, there is no reason this team shouldn't be a FF and National Championship contender over the next two, even three years. Our passing and floor defense will improve (with Hailey) and there is a very real chance that McNeil's setting will take this team to the next level. I understand that kids can get anxious (and start talking transfer when the coach leaves and they think the associate head coach will get the job), but this team has amazing talent.
They will hire a great coach. It won't be Scott -- and not CJ either, I hear -- but the coach will be a good one.
