IMO, Christy is the frontrunner. I could be wrong, but this is my guess.

Scott Swanson is ready and able and deserving of the opportunity. he has been a huge part of their recent success and recruiting. The man has paid his dues.

Much will depend on who the other candidates are. If he should get the job, I hope the players will give him the benefit of the doubt. His style is definitely different than Mike's but I think it was needed on the staff. A lot could also depend on who would be on his staff.

Scott Who ?
That is what the 6'5 '' outside hitter from Louisiana is gonna say.
What has he won?
The program comparison to the Womans Basketball program is very valid.

The 6'5" outside hitter from Louisiana probably doesn't know who Mike is, either......... (Plus, Scott has been in charge of recruiting for quite a while now, so he'd have been that OH's first point of contact even with Mike still around...)

I wonder when Russ retires if they will argue that the recruiter who recruited for Russ should be the head coach. Clueless I say.. and that Louisiana gal certainly would know who wins and loses before deciding where to play. Recruiters dont coach..plan the workouts and lead the team..they support... And they dont deal with the Season ticket holders and the press either...or those pesky boosters .

And they dont deal with the Season ticket holders and the press either...or those pesky boosters . I'm not saying Scott should take over for Mike. I'm simply saying he would be the first point of contact for a recruit interested in Minnesota. And knowing a team's performance is easier than knowing their coach -- I'm sure there are quite a few high school volleyball players who know that Penn State has won four titles in a row but can't name their coach. Just sayin'. Some obviously will know, but there's a big chunk who don't know much more than the name of the team before they start looking into things. I didn't say anything about season ticket holders or press or anything like that. And your statement "recruiters don't coach" is absolutely false, especially at Minnesota -- Scott, being in charge of recruiting, also did 80% of the coaching at Minnesota during Mike's last few seasons there. I can also guarantee that it's a team effort with all three coaches and the physical trainers to plan the workout schedules. It's funny to hear a man in his 50s or 60s try to tell me that I'm clueless how about the minds of volleyball recruits might work or how practices at Minnesota are run, when A) not tooo long ago I went through a very similar process, except it was not for volleyball, it was for music. (Which I realize might seem quite different but having gone through it while my best friend went through it FOR VOLLEYBALL - and ending up at Minnesota by the way - they're not that different) and B) one of my close friends is involved directly with the team today and attends all practices, which keeps me informed as to how they are run and who does what with the team.

Nobody in volleyball is just a recruiter. The position doesn't exist.
And there is no one out there that's going to get top players here on the strength of his or her recruiting. Not unless there's cash involved.

Go Fan.. It's not rocket science.
Minnesota prides itself on diversity. Mike took this team from obscurity and 400 fans to national top 10 level..
The people who hired Mike and Mike himself have commented on how hard it is to recruit the top players here...and the obstacles to overcome to get to a national champion.
The odds of hiring the EX LOUISVILLE COACH HAVE TO BE OVER 80 % based upon what HE would bring to the table to finish the process.
The woman's Volleyball program has been the ONLY bright spot for the last 8 years or so...
We CANNOT GO BACK to the North Dakota level..lower big 10 level.
The Fans, The BOOSTERS and the Press all will DEMAND better.
and dont let my age thing get to you ..my daughter was recruited and went to LOUISVILLE..not on VB program..but I know some of the ex parents ..in Both as well as coaches.
Parents have a funny way of determining where their kids go...
Only a parent would know that of course..
So I am on board.
Bring the Russian home.
