Boooos.. I was commenting on my personal experiences where we could count people on the student section in the hundred. The parents will always be there. So Free people and parents shouldn't count toward the financial success of any program..flew right over your heads. I bet you could find season ticket holders..and they were much lower when Mike took over..you want that number to go back? Hire a losing coach. and our press coverage? While it has been dismal compared to the success rate if we lose it will go back to NON existent. My pet peeve with Mike has been and always will remain the Cheerleader issue. Why in the world wouldn't you want what every student wants? the college atmosphere and school pride? Even Louisville has it in spades. Bring the BEST possible hire to the school ..one who has a proven wining record with Championships at every level. There can be only 1 . It is Yelin.

Do you really think "every student" wants cheerleaders at a volleyball match? If you do, you're mistaken.
I agree that we could use some more school pride/bigger student support/whatever -- but I suppose part of that suffers when the only section reserved for students is so restricted that if you are a student with an ID, and your friend does not have a student ID, they are not allowed to sit with you in that section -- that's not going to encourage many people to sit there... (I'm not sure if they still do this - but based on how empty that section was this season, I'm thinking they do? I know as recently as 2009 I did not sit there because a friend with me does not have a U Card.)

A record that isn't good enough to knock Penn State from atop the conference standings. That kind of record creates a lot of whining from the rest of the Big Ten, and "wining" from Silly Goophers.

How about this possibility?
Minnesota hires Scotty for two or three years with an interim (sp?) title and the understanding that the job is Hugh's after he finishes with the National Team. This would make sense for UM to do since Swanson already has an in with the recruits...and it gives the university breathing room to wait for Hugh to finish up.
Could this work? I really think Hugh is the leading candidate at this point.

A lot can happen in a couple years when you're trying to stay at an elite level. Just ask Wisconsin. Not saying Scott isn't the right fit, but just a "what if"? As an administrator, I'd be more comfortable with a more sure thing with someone proven.

Anthing is possible. with my wining record.
2 possibilites. 1. Go big.. 2. Go home. I chose to support the rise to the submitte of tye moutain top. While others bask in obscurity and poor choices.
That another way of saying ..
What's your thought or pick.?

Bill, why do you want a coach who was found guilty of a number of SERIOUS NCAA violations and asked to leave his last job? And what makes you think he wouldn't bring those problems to MN? I would imagine the NCAA would throw the book at MN if they hired him and he had another violation. Just look at IU's MBB.

Boooos.. I was commenting on my personal experiences where we could count people on the student section in the hundred. The parents will always be there. Change your story much, Bill? BTW... the student section is the 3- or 4-tier high temporary bleachers at the end court. You can't have more than a couple hundred people there, even when the Pav is packed. When did we start talking about financial success? Why do you think that Yelin will be able to bring in crowds big enough to bring about financial success? I'm certain the numbers were lower. The very first year Mike was here, the program did a season-ticket drive. That's how I first got season tickets, and started on my path to Gopher addiction. Since more non-students than students are at the matches, why should it matter, even if every student wanted them? What do the majority of the fans want? What "proven winning record" does Yelin have at the Final Four? That is certainly one level of championships.

Seems like the interim route was debated and discarded. Swanson has a shot at the job, but I don't think he'll get it. Have heard they haven't contacted people mentioned such as Carlston, Skinner, Sheffield.
