Why would Scott take it as an interim knowing he'd be gone in two years? Gophs would get killed in recruiting this way. The only way an interim works is if they are handpicked by Hugh and then become part of his staff and it is announced upfront. IMHO

I agree. What about Reed S.? I know his name has been suggested prior but why is there no traction in Reed's direction?

I can't believe all this mis-information. Nobody on this board has a clue about what is going on at Minnesota.
That's the only thing that this thread has cleared up.

Seems like the interim route was debated and discarded. Swanson has a shot at the job, but I don't think he'll get it. Have heard they haven't contacted people mentioned such as Carlston, Skinner, Sheffield. Reason.......it can't be that they don't want to pay. I just think it is that they have who they want or they are just flat out not very smart (MN Administration). Estrella

my biggest fear is a replay of the tim brewster hire in football-they talk to some unknown assistant coach for no reason who interviews really well and they decide he is the one and give them the job only to find out they have no idea what they are doing. that is not out of the question for maturi

It was just a prediction. Haha, that's what this entire thread is...speculation.
I thought it made sense. We all have our ideas and picks as to who we want as coach. Personally I believe Carlston is the way to go, but I think Minnesota wants Hugh. IMO, if they wanted Geoff it would've already been a done deal. The fact that he hasn't even been called yet leads me to believe that he isn't their top pick.

MN is one of the top VB programs in the country, they should be able to attract a top couch. My thinking would be if not Hugh then someone like Hambly who has links with the youth national teams. Someone who's worked with the top players at a young age where they get to know him and he gets a up close look at them at an early age and as they progress. Maybe have a look at the person who replaced Hambly. Hard to beat the success that he's had in a very short period of time.

It is no secret that Hugh is and has been their top choice, as he probably should be. If he is serious about it, it is going to take some time to work out the logistics of it because he's not going to leave until after the olympics.
If he is not interested or they can't work it out, then it opens a whole bunch of other options that have beens discussed here. Most of the names mentioned aside from Hugh are coaches in successful programs who need to protect themselves. Only they know if they have been contacted or not, regardless of what they are telling people who ask.
That being said, I heard from a guy who knows the accountant of Tom Selleck, he will be the new coach.

How about Kari Ambrozich, a Minnesota girl (all-state at Columbia Heights), who might want to upgrade to a real volleyball program? Just kidding -- just kidding! After two decades of Hawaii, I bet she wouldn't be able to handle those winters up north.
