Almost 24 hours with no new information (I mean conjecture and speculation)!! What is going on?? Did Minnesota fall into a black hole or something??

I have no news on the coaching situation, but am surprised by the lack of comments on a related development, namely, Ruffda's apparent departure from this board in protest against what he regarded as unfair and deceptive comments about one of the Gophers' former assistant coaches. He's a long time mainstay and I sure hope he changes his mind and returns.

I did say "deceptive" for that very reason. I didn't want to re-hash the allegations, though. I don't know who's right and don't especially care. It would be a remarkable and unfortunate thing, or remarkably unfortunate, if Ruffda decided to no longer participate on the board because of it. Indeed, if he felt that these coaches were doing something underhanded, you'd think the better solution would be to complain to the moderator or even "out" the wrongdoers, so that it is them leaving rather than Ruffda. Oh, well. The board can be a bit addicting. Maybe Ruffda will be less able to go cold turkey than he imagines.

I think there is more to it than that. If you read his comments he talked about coaches having multiple accounts. How would he know that? Does he have access to everyone's accounts?

Notwithstanding that I mentioned the possibility, I would discourage Ruffda and anyone else from saying things in a public forum that could prompt a defamation suit. Not worth the grief.

Accusations of coaches having multiple accounts is slanderous? Which coaches, even which posters? Can an anonymous poster sue? Doubt it, although slander law is well in my past. I am saddened if Ruffda did take a powder because of posts about 7 year old coaching manuevers. To uninvolved eyes it just seems........uh, hard to come up with a word that's not insulting, but important, or relevant aren't one of them.

I participate on and read a variety of boards. Ruffda is one of my favorite posters on any board. I don't pretend to understand these circumstances, but I truly hope he reconsiders.

I think gogophers means accusing coaches of being somehow "underhanded" and "sneaky."

(R)uffda! has been on this board (and the previous one) at least as long as I have, and that is a very long time. I have seen him reset his post count on more than one occasion, but don't remember whether he stayed away for any length during those times. He is one of the great fans and mainstays of this board. (R), don't stay away too long!

I also meant accusing a coach of carrying on a vendetta to ruin another coach's reputation amongst board viewers, the means of the vendetta being to say the same libelous things through what looks like different personae. This would create the false impression that lots of people believe what the accusing coach is saying, not just one outlier, and would allow the coach to reappear on the board to make the same statements, without it seeming like just one person repeating himself ad nauseum. Couple the falsity of the statement with a determination to make special effort to spread and repeat, and you have a recipe for a defamation complaint.

(R)uffda isn't the regular poster that we think he is. Or, he wasn't.
